High temps = pinging
why does my 02 m6 ping at high rpms when it is hot out. I always run 93 octane and the engine is completelly stock. It doesnt really do it when it is cooler out or at night time. also i just cleaned the MAF and seafoamed the engine so i know it is none of these things. Please help!!!! thanks

A couple of thoughts:
1. The temp gauge on an '02 is an approximation at best. Any idea what temp your engine is actually running at? Has the cooling system been serviced lately?
2. Gas varies from brand to brand. Even though you run 93 octane, it might not be a bad idea to try a different brand to see if there is any change.
3. Engine deposits can lead to ping -- I understand that you "Seafoamed the engine" but there could still be issues, especially if it is a higher mileage engine.
4. How is your tune? Spark plugs? Cats? These may all have an impact on spark knock.

well the engine has 73,000 on it i tried a couple different gas stations same results. the spark plugs i did about 10,000 ago but i used bosch platinum +2 plugs and i dont think they are the greatest. so ive been thinking of replacing them with ngk tr6 to get a cooler plug in their to maybe bring down cylinder temps. what do you think

The "colder plug" does not bring down cylinder temps -- rather it simply has a shorter path from the electrode to the head so that heat is transferred away faster than a "hotter plug". Lots of guys on here are running NGK TR55's and have had great results. Any idea what your actual engine temp is?

not sure on actual temps but the fans were kicking on today. and it was pinging at wot. fans usally dont kick on until what 210 so it was up their. so as far as the colder plug it is a waste of time you think i should just go with tr55

Its kinda a long but I think you should try changing the plugs and see what happens. Its a inexpensive guess...

stock t-stat? You can drive down the temps by putting in a cooler t-stat and having the fans come on earlier. That might help you some. I would say the very first thing to do is get a log and verify knock and how much then you can look at temps, fueling, and things like that.
