    belt help

I have a 98 ss I got some aftermarket pully's can't get the crank pully off so only the alternator one is changed. Has been like that for a few weeks, yesterday I decided to take another crack at the pully no luck after a few mins said screw it tightend the bolt back up. Now the car doesn't seem to charge correctly looks like the belts slipping belt is old and i had gotten some liquid wrench on it and by the looks from the tentionor it's time for a new one. Car would drive fine after making a really loud noise then it'd stop and car was charging normal. I just tried the new belt puts some tention on the tentionor and everything looks good but when I start the car the belt slips still on but half on the half hanging off. I checked kragens website part number matches what it's suppose to be any ideas. Only thing I could think of is that the crank pullys not in evenly but then why doesn't the old one come off like the new one does. I had hammered lightly on the side of the pully trying to break it loose as people told me to do so yeah any ideas? sorry if my grammer and spelling is back kinda sick but trying to figure this out before I go to bed.

i would suggest putting the stock alternator pulley back on till you can change both pullies together and put a gatorback belt on,

the size difference in the alternator pullys is very very miniumal just feels a lot lighter. A gatorback belt is what is popping off, the tentionor seems to be putting tention on but maybe its not enough it looks like the new belt is gripping and when it does the tentioner just gives way and lets it pop off. How do you know when a tentionor is bad.

I agree with camarojunky 74. The pulley set works in conjuction with each other. Just rent a harmonic damper puller from vato zone/ advance auto parts. Pull that stocker off and put the new one on, with a arp bolt, and get a new tensioner and belt.

    +1
Serpentine Belts ( the one your car uses) are designed for fairly tight tolerances. If the pulley you changed is even a few milimeters smaller it WILL slip..Re-install the old pulley or finish the job.. And put a good belt on it. Gatorback by Goodyear. Or a Contitech. Both Good belts. DON"T use some Schucks Drive Rite crap .. You will thank us later.

It doen't have to be an ARP, Altho it is recommended. But you WILL have to install a NEW bolt. They are Torque to Yeild (means they stretch as you tighten them) DO NOT RE-USE the old bolt.. It could be fine... or Bad things could happen... Hate to lose that bolt at 5500 rpms eh ?

How have you been trying to get the old crank pulley off? Using a 3 jaw puller and pulling from the inside of the pulley? It's kinda tricky to get it all to bite but once you do the stock pulley should pretty much come right off. Have you looked at making an install tool for that? It'd also help you get it off.

With the puller I tried from the inside it's hard to get it to stick got it two a few times. Is there bolts i'm missing cuz I only took the huge bolt off in the center. I got a new tentionor fixed the belt issue still want to get the pully off though.
