Swapping an LT1 for an LS1
i need some help here havnt really messed with computer controlled engines and PCM too much, more of a carbed motor guy, but i have a 94 z28 with an lt1 with over 150,000 miles decided it was time to swap engines. i know ill need a different computer than the lt1 computer but will i need a new wiring harness or anything else?? i know the computer will need to be custom tuned for the fact that its gonna be a pretty built up ls1, all help is greatly appreciated i have one of those how to build a performance ls1 but hasnt helped so far. thanks again for all the help

There are companies (not sure which sponsor if any) that sell custom harnesses for this swap. You'll need transmission provisions, (if you have auto, the computer will need to be able to communicate with the older tranny, if manual, you'll need the full front end conversion from LS1 [input shaft, bell housing, front cover, slave, clutch, hydrualics, etc]) motor mounts, exhaust work, possibly the radiator, and some type of instrument interaction. For starters....

There is at least 1 other guy that has done this swap recently. Do a search and then talk to him.

complete engine and all 3 harness's from a 98 camaro. every wire in this car is oem, nothing was spliced or hacked, i used a 98 dash and center console so i could use the proper speedo and hvac and everything. i used a 6 speed lt1 rear with 342's and i has to make the brake lines due to the channel difference between years.i also used every fuel line, brake lines, gas tank, hvac vacuum lines, ls1 subframe with big brakes and kept the smaller lt1 brakes in the rear so i can fit a 15" wheel

Just so you know there are different routes you can go to do a LT1 to LS1 swap for your application. Some parts that people tell you that cant be used can be and some have to be modded in order to work. Some parts that can be reused from the LT1 would just be easier on you if you used the LS1 version such as the Kmember. The LT1 kmember can be reused for your LS1 swap but you will have to reuse or purchase new LT1 motor mounts and use a modded plate or one from Trans Dap. Or if you are really handy you can make custom mounts/plates. Just an example but it all depends on your abilities and the amount of patience you have to do the swap. Same goes for the wiring, you can go a different route than someone else did with the same exact swap but it may or may not cost more or be more time consuming. Be prepared to do a lot of research.
