Hurst Shifter stock?
I bought my car (99 WS6) several months ago and it's an M6 car with a Hurst shifter. Did Hurst shifters come stock in those cars? Just curious

Not sure about 99 but in 01 the Hurst shifter was an option. The RPO code for "Hurst Short Throw Shifter" is BBS. You can look at the list of RPO codes on the door jam to see if BBS is listed. Sometimes only the knob has been changed.

I'll have to look. In this case, however, it's a complete Hurst shifter.

I know the 01 SS had them with the leather handle....I looked at a blue one on the showroom floor when I bought my Z.

Navy Blue Metallic- `98 Formula M6 HdTp
Hurst shifter (RPO BBS) was available on all M6 equipped F-bodies starting in 1999.
Before that they were under the SLP extra options on so equipped cars.Craig

According to GM HighTech Performance (see this article) the difference between the factory option Hurst and the Billet Plus Hurst Shifter is:
...the Billet Plus has a much heavier-duty construction including a heat-treated billet steel gear selector, a polymide pivot cup, and high-pivot mechanism for a reduced throw.

What they don't tell you, since it was probably a paid advertisement, is that the Billet Plus doesn't come with the noise isolators or a boot that fits.
So the Billet Plus shifters transmitt more noise and vibration.
I have both, and I think Hurst could have made a better Billet shifter than whats out on the market. We didn't like it so it came off.

I was wondering about that- the boot looks big but I haven't installed mine yet (all my clutch parts are waiting in a pile just waiting for a good weekend to be installed!) I have a brass shifter cup that I was going to use, but I was worried that it would increase the vibration too much- now that I know the shifter will only make it worse I may just not even try the brass one and use the plastic one that comes with the shifter. Thanks for the heads up!

The Hurst comp plus is aftermarket from Hurst nowadays. Back in the day that was one of the shifters you could buy for muncies and toploaders. And even that was a bit different from the factory equipped Hurst shifters on most cars back then.
For the newer cars they call it the Hurst Billet plus from what I've seen. And it's a bit different than the factory Hurst that was optioned on the camaros and firebirds.
I've had both versions and currently run the factory optioned Hurst shifter in my wifes 4th gen SS.
