New Pontiac G8
I recently got rid of my 00TA m6
Loved her but let it go...
Now I test drove that G8 Gt today since I'm looking for a fast daily driver. The things quick but it just doesn't seem to have the raw power the TA had. The stock numbers on Hp & Tq are better though...
Anyone lined up with one and see how they fair yet?
It's nice ass car but I gotta make sure w/e I get isn't too much of a step down from my Trans Am.
I plan on leasing it and turning it in for the new Camaro in a few years.
Whatcha think about the cars performance though?

black- 1993 mustang
to me also it will be a good daily driver. it is a good performer for what it is. compared to your TA the weight will be killing its performance!

Yes it is a lot heavier than the TA. I think it runs almost 4000 lbs.

I think all the G8s are, is a 4-door GTO. I think they are built on the same platform.

Co-worker has one.......be a nice car to have if I needed more room. Might get a GXP used in about 3-4 years. Probably keep it stock and keep the camaro too.
Nice cars for sure. Huge trunk too! I like the GTO, but in a few years, I see a 4 door more practical and by then the g8 might be price practical.

The wife realy loves the way they look and wants one bad. But I can't see getting a RWD car for her because of the winter. So I have been kicking around the idea of a Grand Prix GXP for her.

Black- 2001 Chevrolet Camaro Z28
A friend of mine has a G8 GT that he let me drive.
Pros:
- Pretty quick. I think it would give a stock LS1 f-body a run for its money. At our shitty little 1/8 mile track, his car pulled a .10 faster than mine did last year. His car had headers, mine had a bone stock engine, but an autocross suspension on it. Both cars were on street tires.
- Nice interior, reminded me of a BMW. Lots of space as well.
- Best handling (non 'Vette) GM car (stock) that I've ever driven. It reminded me a lot of the BMWs I've driven over the years, and superior to a stock F-body.
- Nice styling
Cons:
- Too quiet for a V8
- A bit on the large side
- Automatic
Don't get me wrong though, I REALLY liked the car. I wouldn't get rid of my Camaro for it, but if I needed the four doors it would be something I'd consider.

G8 is on the Zeta platform, GTO is on the LHD platform, G8 has L76 6.0 or LS3, GTO has LS1 or LS2.
Not even close to being the same car except for the fact they're both modeled after Australian counterparts of same designs.
Owning both a FBody and a G8, I will say I would rather have the G8, but the Wife loves it more than I would. With a tune and VaraRam only it has beat full bolt on fbodies, GTOs, and numerous Stangs at track and on the street.
G8 tips scales @ 3950 curb weight so somewhats of a heavy pig, but like the Camaro, Zeta platform cars are pigs due to the IRS.Last edited by '02 WS6; 08-25-2011 at 03:37 AM.

kind of the same impression I had when I test drove one right after they came out. The "wow" factor wasn't there for me on the engine side, wasn't a big fan of the gauge layout in the center console, and working the radio seemed more complicated than it should be. Trunk space was awesome, interior was awesome, and for someone wanting a roomier car the performance was enough. Overall I would buy that in a heartbeat for my wife but for me personally I'd like more attitude from it. Good news is it's mod friendly and will respond well to mods so you could make it quite a bit faster.

Stock G8 tune is horrible by the way, and the torque management setting on stock tcm takes away any or all of the excitement, but trust me its there.
