The original intent of the looser converters was to allow the engine not only to idle, but to reach it's RPM where peak torque is achieved when you are running a large camshaft with alot of overlap.

With the larger camshaft and a stock converter,,,not only would the engine have a hard time idling and want to creep while holding the brakes,,,but the engine would also feel very soft down low and struggle for rpm until the engine reached an area where the camshaft started to work.

Looser converters also work pretty good with stock camshafts but OEM manufactures just can't build the cars that way and expect to sell to the majority of consumers.

Possibly. As long as it's not some crazy loose converter designed for a monster camshaft that blows right past the torque peak the stock camshaft provides.

I'm currently running a 3400 in mine that was speced for a 224 at .050 camshaft on a 114 lobe sep. A rather mild cam in my book,,,but I currently run the stock camshaft and the car drives around fine. As a matter of fact I would say the car is much more fun to drive and should pick the car up 3-4 tenths from it's previous best with stock converter.

At this point I'm not really sure when I'll ever get around to putting the camshaft in. Car is fun as is.

Yes it would. Something in the 3000 range would be good.
A Stall is one of the best first mod for an A4. Provided you have enough tire to not spin.

Smile ? about stock stall speeds?

What's up LS1/LT1 lovers? I have a 94 Z28 A4, and was wondering if there is a difference in stall speeds between a 94 vette and 94 Z28? Some say the vette has a stall of 2000 and Z28 of 1650? Any help would be great. Thanks.

There could be some truth to that. Have to research it but wouldn't surprise me since GM was doing the same thing back in the late 60's and early 70's.

Back in the day the thing to do was to either swap in a 69 L88 Vette converter which gave you about 1,000 more RPM stall. Or if you wanted more you could swap in a Vega converter which was really loose behind a V8,,,at least by 70's standards.

Ask Precision Industries when you order it. They can make it about anything you want. Best to tell them all about your car, weight, gears, cam intended, heads, engine ci, etc.....and generally a good converter manufacture will tailor the converter to the combination you have.

Thats really the best way to go about it. Not everyone here has the same combo, and one converter that works good in one car may not work as well in another car. Just too many variables.

Nice! That's pretty high of a stall. What have you done to the engine?
