Do you want newer dependability (with I'm assuming a car payment), or do you want an established car (that you have knowledge of...both good and bad) with no car payment?

Other than a warranty, is there any advantage to the GTO in repair coverage? Obviously newer, but that's not a guarantee of reliability. Think of the monthly payments and then consider if you used one year's worth of payments for improvements to the SS, would you negate any performance advantage of the LS2 in a heavier car? Then anything above that is money in the bank (and available for needed repairs). The SS is a finite subject. They ain't makin' any more...yet. Would you be in the market for a new one in a few years when they are produced again? If so, would the tradein (or outright sale) of an older SS bring more money to you than a used GTO where you are still making payments (remember, if the SS doesn't require much in repair costs, those payments are in your account not the lender's).

To me, I would keep the SS. GTO's are nice, but they just don't seize the eye like an SS/Z28/WS6/TA does. At least not without some modification, and that just adds to the cost. I would opt for about $3-4000 in performance upgrades on the SS if it was me (roughly a year's car payments). KBB means nothing to me if I don't like the car. Although an entirely different platform, I had made my decision to heavily modify my 94 Thunderbird, and keep it a long time, but then I got hit and the car was totalled. I don't regret that decsion though, and I know I would have been happy with it producing 400-425 rwhp.

That's significant because as far as I'm concerned, the last year of a real T-bird was 97. The "new" style is woefully lacking. I do not care for the retro-style of it. That makes me value an SS even more.

Absolutely no idea, except be ready to accept some monetary loss. If you lose a couple of thousand off the original value, chaulk it up as an experience that you paid for and move on.

Sorry that's not real helpful, but it sounds like you can lose little, or lose big. Minimizing your loss can almost be a victory.... sort of.
