Thread: Stingray vette or GT500?

I'll take the GT500 over any of the other choices, even just the GT mustang is a nice piece for the money.
I say that not because of the power, I primarily like the looks of the mustang over the current camaro or vette. Just don't care much for anything GM is pumping out at the moment, and for that matter haven't cared much since the 80's. I just can't get past the looks of the 5th gen camaro, I don't care what engine they put in it.
Yes I'm old and primarily own classic stuff so I have an affection for the retro look. The mustang still has it, the camaro missed it, and so did the GTO. Camaro sales are pretty good but it's no secret the GTO sales fell way short, just wasn't what the majority wanted or expected. Too bad really because I'm a big pontiac fan and grew up around them.

the new sting ray is fat 3400#.. but if your looking for the nicest car there, definitely the sting ray..... GT500 if you want to do nothing but beat on it on a drag strip... EVERYBODY owns a mustang i can count over 20 most days I go out. or pick up a used z06 they should be a good bit cheaper.

Perfect, I'm a dragstrip kind of guy. Don't care for corners and have no interest in that at all. Hell I still drive cars with manual 4 wheel drum brakes
Don't get me wrong, I have a C5Z06 and it's a nice driving car, but don't care much how fast it corners.
Besides, the GT500 would look good parked next to my 69 SCJ.
There's a reason you see so many mustangs on the road

Not from what I see. You need to hit the dragstrip more
The fox body chassis ranks up there with the most popular platform to modify, and that has seemed to carry on throughout the years. With the introduction of the Coyote engine it got even better. There are even classes just for the Coyote engine, and swapping them into the older fox body chassis to compete is extremely popular.
Make no mistake, I like the LS engine platform, just don't care all that much for the 4 gens or the new 5th gens they were put in, even though I've owned 4th gens since the introduction of the LT1, and my wife likes to drive them.Last edited by Firebirdjones; 08-13-2013 at 07:36 AM.

I guess that's where we differ on vettes. I don't like the looks of the C6 in anything. The C5Z06 is a pretty good looking vette though, and frankly in my opinion the only good looking one that has come out after 1972. I like the solid roof coupe body style with it's fast back appearance. The C6 took on more of a European look that doesn't appeal to me.
Not saying I would kick one out of the garage if it were free
But if I had to pay money for something, I just like the mustang better.

Yes but not because it is an amazing chassis , car or engine. Foxbodys are largely used they are cheap and parts are readily available and cheap. Foxbodys are to domestic cars like the DSMs are to the import world. Ugly, lacking from factory, not very well made but there is a huge market place that spawned from the underpaid enthusiasts. You get good results with little money simply because of how cheap and light they were.
Mustangs from the mid 70s on were hideous. One of the worst looking cars out there not just from a muscle car or pony car standpoint but compared to almost any type of car.
You need to hit the shopping malls and suburbs more I guess because that is where a majority of mustangs reside because a majority of mustangs on the road are v6s or base GTs and pretty much every v6 I see is driven by a woman and many GTs are as well. Escpecially vert GTs.Last edited by Zinergy; 08-13-2013 at 07:56 AM.

Guess it's a geographical thing. When I go to malls I see more trucks than anything else, and alot of Toyota and Nissan crap. Doesn't really matter if a woman drives a mustang, or any other car does it? It certainly doesn't influence my decision to own something. At least she is driving something from the big 3

Now if it were pink it would be another story

I'm not entirely saying it's a sex thing, more like 70% of the Mustangs I see are V6's and have women drivers.

I think I like that idea better than seeing them in little toyota's and nissan's or even a mini van. Alot of women around here drive big full size pickup trucks believe it or not, or excursions, suburbans etc...I take my son to and from school, and that's mostly what I see, loading up the kids.
Sex thing or not, it's all okay with me. I guess you're aware there are a few women on here that have 4th gens
My wifes daily driver is a 6 speed 4th gen.
My wife will drive any one of our classic muscle cars on occasion and I think it's cool as hell. To even have a wife that's into it that much is a blessing. She jumps right in the 454 chevelle with 640 hp and tools around, her favorite to drive is the 70 formula among some others and she'll shift gears with the best of them. The sand rail puts a big smile on her face, how cool is that? We aren't young pups either.Last edited by Firebirdjones; 08-13-2013 at 12:02 PM.

Don't you just love going to the track and 90% of the stangs are powerd by an ls1 or any gm engine for that matter

is it just me lol?

90% is optimistic, but I have seen some, mainly fox bodies, but I also see them with big block chevys etc... Probably won't see it so much since these newer stangs sport the coyote engine, but it will always be popular in the older stuff.

I do not think anyone meant all women drive v6s mustangs. Just that a majority of mustangs are v6s and a majority of mustangs after 1993 have been owned by women. No one is saying that there are more mustangs on the road driven by women than any other car. It is no secret that moms/family oriented women drive SUVs. Hell the rest of the world talks shit about it when they say things like "Why do American women drive SUVs just to drop the kids off/pick them up and get groceries" etc. Trucks sell well in most places of the country except for cramped cities like NY.

I do run a 9 inch in one chevy here, and of course the SCJ being a ford has one already. In our 4th gen I chose a 12 bolt however.
Nothing wrong with either. It doesn't bother me that this engine is in that car or vice versa. I have chevy's, pontiac's, and even a ford in the stable. I like them all for different reasons. I'm GM most of the time but that doesn't stop me from liking and collecting different brands. One big reason why I ditch the car club scene, too many bias people that are narrow minded.

Either way you cut it that's not what I've seen, which is why I mentioned it must be geographical. So I don't really think it's stereotyped to women specifically. If I see women driving little sports cars around here it's generally a mazda miata or a mini or god forbid I see alot of them in a prius. Women or not, when it comes to something I'd like to have, it wouldn't stop me from owning something just because a women might be driving one.
Here's a 57 t-bird I'm painting for a customer. Yeah it's pink and it's a baby bird (called Dusk Rose to be exact) so the obvious thought for someone I suppose is that it must be a chicks car.....
Nope, it's an elderly gentleman that collects baby birds.
