But I dont get how a GTO which weighs 200+ pounds gets 13.1. If you wanna go by that then the Camaro should be somewhere near 12.9 not being a stripper model.

Actually the 2001 SS Evan Smith tested in the November '01 issue of MM&FF had leather seats amongst other options. That car wen't 12.96/107 in the heat.

But was it the SLP model that adds a bunch of shit? Or just a regular SS?

A lot of F-body cars DO get in the 12s. They are good 1/4 mile cars. Wide tires, solid axles, and lots of power under the hood.
Imagine your car at the drags with a friend who is 200lbs sitting in the passenger seat. Then you have the weight of a GTO with a single driver. The launch is much tougher with the GTO because of the IRS and the snow tires GM put on them....lol Decent tires help A LOT on the GTO's.
I believe you guys of how fast they tested the SS cars.

yeah....once I get my K&N, elbow, and splitter, I might be close t that magical 300whp mark....
my lt1 is sittin on 277whp, and 307wtq with LT's and magnaflow catback as the ONLY mods
on the dyno a ls1 f body is good for what? about 280-290 whp.....but the question is.....whats the torque?????? and where does it peak.
a lt1 may not breathe up top like a ls1, and I know that, but my torque band is about 300 wtq all the way down from 3500 rpm. then it flat lines..... it pulls good for a A4 car with 2.73's

my buddy might be gettin a stock ls2 goat sometime before next spring. I'll have my intake by then, and we'll make a video. I am estimating it should be pretty good, but I prolly lose.....its okay. it'll be fun.Last edited by LT1 > LS1; 11-06-2008 at 12:22 PM. Reason: oops

This is one of my dyno's of my LT1 that shows torque peaks or comes close to it really quick. You can also see what a bad opti looks like on this graph as a result of a loose rotor. With a new opti the car made right at 440rw before the 250 shot. I'll see if I can find the stock dyno graph of my T/A and upload it to show where torque peaked on her.

Nice dyno sheet man!
If I keep the GTO (havent yet decided) I am going to go heads/cam/FI. I need more power!.....lol
A good tune really wakes up a car. Most LS1 GTO's are in need of a tune. ITs as if GM de-tuned them more than the F-body LS1's.

But GM didnt detune the LS1 Fbodies

But that goes for the corvettes too. They didnt change the actual engine from the corvette or camaro just the more restrictive exhaust not being TD.

Its a cool car but I need to do some suspension work to make it handle the way I want. Then I fear it will STILL fall short.
I am looking at C5 Z06's. I got a real hard on over those man. I love my friends 02 black/black. I cream my jeans just thinking about that thing!

I'd be po'd iff I spent over $30,000 on a GTO like the one in the video and have an LT1 almost 10 years younger hanging right with me. Waste of money IMO, They look like a Cavalier on steroids.

Other than its longer, lower, slightly flared fender, smaller gaps between tires and body....lol
That is your opinion and I respect that, actually hear that a lot from F-body guys. Since many of my friends have the LT1 F-body cars it is my assumption and observation that the driver of the GTO is not a good driver. Now one this that happers an AUTOMATIC GTO is the Torque management. That slows the cars considerably, as for the 6-speed ones the only excuse to have is a crappy driver. A good (tough to find one) driver in an M6 LS1 will easy handle an LT1 F-body stock for stock. GTO is heavier but does make more power, has different tranny gears, but the F-body is lighter with a solid axle.
Remember its my opnion and I respected yours. I am not basing my findings on magazine articles either, which we all know are sometimes are a complete farse.
Also you may want to remember that even though the GTO is a 2004 that car has been around for YEARS in Australia, so its not a new design. Just a rebadged car with different bumper emblems.

once the Ls1 hits 3rd gear (assuming its a M6) it will start to pull away from the Lt1...
