Do i agree with it or not yes and no, as you said some asshat with bad brakes/tires might cream your car but then how is it that 30+ other states don't do it. Im sure if it really was a problem all states would be doing it. As for the emissions testing on todays cars .. Need to just get rid of all the tests and just do spot checkes.

they say that because what they want to be checked usually don't wear fast, or they check the wrong way. It is a waste of money because a heavy percentage of the ones doing inspection don't know their head from their ass when it comes to cars. Plus how it was explained to me that for everything that newjersey tests for and it fail it costs more money, something about a company that handles it, so yea even the effen inspections are outsourced.

another point is this is New Jersey, the land of idiotic drivers that don't give a shit about anything. remember NY and NJ are the worst 2 states as far as drivers. you are damn right I am worried about my safety with these idiots on the roads with faulty equipment.

I can only tell you how Va. does it, or did it the last time I had an inspection there. they made sure my headlights was aimed properly, took the wheels off and visually inspected the brakes, and checked rear drum adjustment, checked the shocks for leakage, checked the ball joints ,tie rod ends, idler arm, pitman arm, checked tread depths on the tires if any part was at 2/32 or below it failed. checked the springs for cracks or breaks. checked emissions on emission controlled vehicles checked the exaust. if you had a truck and it was lifted they would measure from the frame to the ground to make sure it wasn't too high different heights depending on the truck for example I had a 1/2 ton truck so the frame was only allowed to be 22 inches from the ground at the bottom of the frame, 3/4 tons had more and smaller had less. in alot of ways they were alot more strict than NJ because they was very hands on about it. It was also indipendant shops that did the inspections so it was trained mechanics doing it. not some schmo that ran a macine to tell them if it is good or not (brakes can still work properly even if very worn). What they would do for the most part is leave the sticker on if you failed and you could get it repaired there or do it yourself or elsewhere then come back. they check out the entire car and make a list if there is anything that fails, onnce you bring it back they just check those items the slap on a sticker.

Where did you get those numbers from? NJ should keep the inspections but go to independent shops. Then problems can get fixed on the spot and someone doesnt have to revisit the station to get reinspected.

    I love AL sometimes

    <<< doesn't have state inspections.

Hell, It was legal to have no insurance in AL as long as you owned your car, no lien till mid 90's, I had full coverage for 2 cars, me under 25, for $65 a month, now that it's mandatory, insurance is around $280 for 3 cars.

    you cant rule this out...

aftermarket parts on cars, being legal or illegal is up to the state.

In many states, any aftermarket parts that alters the vehicles factory behavior (sound, performance, visual) can be deemed Illegal. Meaning no aftermarket exhaust, blue HID, lowering or lifting kits, etc...

remember most of hte parts we buy for our cars do state "for offroad use only"

most cops will let it go, however many others pending the state laws have a field day with it.
