wow, we view this a lot differently. I don't look at opportunities missed, I look at experiences and stories gained and some of the best friends I've ever had in my life were made drinking beers together. I have more kick ass stories than you can shake a stick at. Me and all the buddies get together a few times a year and rehash the stories and it's a blast. We've all settled down now with house mortgages, car payments, wives, and kids....it's cool to have those old wild ass stories to fall back on.
Once when we were all about 20 we had a 3 keg party. Drove down that day to the supply place and loaded up the kegs in a truck and a few of us tapped one of them right then and there and started drinking that foamy shit on the way home. That night we had 100-150 of our closest friends over and got tore up and just had a kick ass time. Oh, did I mention our electricity was cut off at the time. We had empty beer bottles all throughout the house with candles in them. There was 6 of us living in the house at that time and the utilities came and went but there was always cold beer....even if it took bags of ice to keep it cold. That's the mentality of a 20 something...spend hundreds a month on beer but somehow manage to not have electricity.

The "opportunities missed" were because I was basically hammered for an entire decade to the priorities got kins screwed up..... I don't regret what I did as I had a great time and still have a few of my friends from way back when, but the majority were what I call "five minute friends" who I only knew for a few drinks or whatever....
I remember going to work one day, in construction, and the crane operator showed up shaking real bad... We sent a guy to the store for a six pack and within a couple of hours the operator had quit shaking enough to run the crane... That is likely the direction I was heading if I had not cleaned up my act when I did...

I would love to read about those stories. I love hearing about the crazy stuff people have done with old drinking buddies. Im kinda looking at it like, if the beer doesnt fucking take over your life and your health and what not, thats what your 20's are for. If you got your shit together enough, theres nothing wrong with drinking a bunch budweisers and taking a dump in the old toilet in front of the house down the street on garbage night after a long night beer pong and loose chicks. haha yeah i did that

Personally I think both Orion and tnthub are "right". Alcohol and drugs do effect different individuals in at least slightly different ways. Some people are more prone to things getting out of hand, in which case as with tnthub they deserve respect for getting a handle on themselves before it's too late. But then, despite what Moms of America and MADD would have you believe, some people get through partying stages with no harm done.
Life is like that.
