So are you keeping the laptop with a good battery or going for a different laptop?

    Laptops:
Usually very versatile and now becoming easy to upgrade. Many new "higher" end laptops you can now upgrade the graphics card (costs a bit of cash though) Typically laptops have been meant to travel well, now your getting this laptops with screens such as 17" - 22" screens on them that weigh up to 15 pounds. Specific laptops you can upgrade the ram very easy, and you can even upgrade the HDD or even the CPU in most cases. Problem is you slighly jar some of these laptops and you've screwed your system up, a slight drop will crack your screen and render it useless unless you know how to replace the screen.
Also cannot out perform 80% of the desktops out there.

    Desktops:
Strongest bang for the buck, how ever depending on what you've got for your system, it is a power guzzler, meaning your electric bill may jump 10-40.00 per month depending on use. Can be used for a small heater in your room if you so choose with the right ventilation on your case. However, EASY UPGRADING and desktop can take 99.9% of the products out there on the shelf today. Oh yea, and its a pain in the ass to tare down and put back up.

    Higher end desktop $2,000 - $7,000
    Higher end laptop $2,500 - $5,500
    Lower end desktop $250 - $500 (250 excludes monitor)
Lower end laptop $400 - $800 (typcially with the bare minimums to run Windows XP/Vista)
