I think that turn signals are optional accessories for most upscale/luxury brand cars.
I don't know if BMW even offers it as an option. I think that the cars that do have them must put them on as aftermarket equipment.

I certainly wasnt trying to get you to buy anything... I never implied having a bad day was an excuse to treat anyone without respect, I merely said I dont tend to interact with people as much. I never said I didnt thank people even when i am not having a good day. I also NEVER even remotely implied being big should exempt you from people being polite - dont know how you got that. - i hate that fucking smilie.

He does it all the time because he's polite if he happens to be at the door at that moment. He just never expects anything in return. Even thanks. What makes it different is Ive never seen him expect anything from anyone, even when he does people a favor - which he does do quite often. It is not at all in his personality to ever ponder why someone didnt acknowledge something he does with so little effort or thought.

I havent really read the responses but all I can say about this issue is people tend to say the newer generations are all impolite and things are really going downhill but whos fault is that? I am a very polite person and will always say please and thank you and use all the proer manners because where i was raised it was common practice. It is the generation before us that is slipping and yes I notice it to, especially being in the army and seeing other people my age or just a few years younger. They are completly rude and are compelled to speak in some sort of gangsta tongue that im not really familiar with but I can say one thing about them, they were allowed to have to wrong heros growing up.

It's all in how we are raised-With or without manners. If you are not raised to respect others or get preached at to Do unto others as you would want others to do to you, then you won't. I hear alot of this nowadays instead of thanks - Good looking out. I go to alot of businesses and when I hold the door for someone going in I hear something like Oh instead of thanks like they are affraid to say Thank you. The word sorry is almost obsolite too-replaced by My bad. WTF? So THANK YOU for bringing this up Jad.

It's the parents, I personally use to get the old slap in the back of the head from my dad if I was not polite. My mom was much more civil usually saying "now what do you say" or as I got older I just got the stare.
As for the bigger guys having more of a presence and intimidating. Personally being 5'7 and 135lbs if a bigger guy get a door I alwasy say thank you because of the intimidation, its always good to be nice to the big guy.

I guess I find it curious that people compartmentalize courtesy...Kindness and civility are not signs of weakness. I am 6' 240s and I don't care if it's Grandma Mavis that helped me or Michael Jordan. I say Thanks. Its EFFORTLESS and certainly takes No thought process or huge expenditure of energy.
To me, people are rather self-centered and on occaision I have caught myself doing things I would chastise another for.. I always reflect on it... why did I NOT let that person out at the light etc. Very busy society here I often think...I think of myself as courteous, I hold the door for my wife even after 7 years of marriage. I do so for strangers too ! Yet, on occaision, I fail, lost in thought on other matters sometimes. Sometimes I just didn't see that person behind me at the door. Seattle is faster paced and weirdly passive aggressive and anti-social. Wonder if the rude/dismissive behavior is more pronounced in the cities or if it's simply that there's more of the anti-social, narcistic types there so it's more noticeable. Not so back home in New Hampshire, people were friendlier and much more prone to random acts of kindness. I see rude behavior all the time ( I work at a business that caters to the public) Young, old, American, Asian whatever.. Rudeness knows no barrier to age, race or gender..
I was raised by a Marine Corp. DI and you can rest assured, Sir and Ma'am are definately in my vocabulary.
Of course, I am also of the opinion that EVERY child ever born has needed a couple trips to the woodshed, sadly, most never got it.

Like the old saying goes, if you're wondering why that short guy won't look you in the eye, it might be because he's trying to decide if your patella or your groin will make the best target to knock you down to his level.
p.s. Good thread, jad. Civility is fading out in American society.Last edited by Dax; 03-12-2007 at 07:28 PM.

Its the way they are being raised, each generation worse and worse. Hell im only 16 and you would probably think im an ungreatful asshole. But some of the younger kids especially freshman say shit and dont even think just like my brother.

I was taught to say "please" and "thank you" to anyone and everyone. I was also taught to look people in the eye when I shake their hand. It shows respect, and if you give respect, you get respect. Simple as that.

Black- Formula... soon
i havent really noticed a difference between age or race, i dont even recall anyone not saying thanks for holding a door or anything like that. it depends on the area. if by young people you mean under 18 then yeah there is a difference, a lot of kids dont use thanks cause they dont really care about how society sees them. i still dont care either but ive gotten into the habit of saying thanks anyway.
