Yes you should be able to reach that safely with the correct tune!!!
Don't be afraid of the bottle!!! Be afraid of your tune!!!

Current best: 10.60/126.8- 1998 Pontiac TA WS6
Nitrous has really gotten a bad rap. Mostly, because some people throw it on their car without really knowing what they are doing. As long as you run a safe shot, install it correctly, have the window switch, fuel pressure safety switch, WOT switch etc etc along with a good nitrous tune you should be ok. A ran a 150 shot for about 50 runs before my motor gave up the ghost. It spun a bearing, but I think it had more to do with the fact that LS1 oil pumps suck. I put in a LS6 oil pump which gives me alot more oil pressure to keep that from happening again.
In short, do yuor homework on setting up nitrous and you should be ok. I wouldn't run any more than a 150 shot to get started, and I recommend a wet kit.

K Tuner lets say I brought my car to you; 3506 Raceweight, 146k miles (mostly highway 100 miles a day to/from work), No smoke or oil consumption problems or leakdown problems, full bolt-ons, all free mods, True duals, MS3 cam on a 114 LSA with full drivetrain upgrade, ported LS6 pump, Siemens 42# injectors, racetronix 255 pump, Vigilante 3500 stall, built trans, 9 inch with 4.10, V6 rear springs, Subframe connectors, UMI adj. T. Arm and PHR, LCA's, KYB shocks, and M/T ET Streets. I want as deep in the 10's as possible on this setup and still keep the motor alive for at least another 8 months. What size shot would you recommend without killing the engine provided I had it tuned to run this shot and what size can my set-up minus nonforged engine parts handle?

The short answer to "Whats Nitrous Like?"
ITS AWESOME!!!
I love my car even more after I put it on the dyno this weekend...
My car is a 2001 SS M6
-Custom dry kit
-LS7 Clutch/LS2 flywheel
-SLP lid and bellows
-TSP Rumbler cat-back
-Poly trans/torque arm mounts
-Stock Hurst shifter with WS6 short stick
-51,000 Miles
-NGK TR-6's gapped at .038
Stock manifolds, Stock fuel pump, stock injectors, stock everything...except nitrous.
Results:
NA run- 330.2 HP/343.6 TQ
Nitrous- 458.2 HP/482.7 TQ
Thats on a little dry kit that I put together. Trust me, it feels great to nail it in second gear...and in third. If I could have traction, i'd shoot first, but I dont have money for a 12 bolt...yet.

How many runs do you want it to live for!?!???
FI or carb'd?
Turn the timing down considerably, and I bet it could take 75hp...

Cast pistons and smaller combustion chambers = melted stuff.
Spray it with 200. I'm sure it'll make 1 pass if you run really cold plugs. LMAO

I can find kits made for 100-150HP for the 305 TPI.
I'm still pretty sure that I wouldn't spray that much on a 305.

I blew 175 through a 305 for almost 2 years before it blew a head gasket.
It all depends on how well it is set up. A 100 hp on anything including a 4 cylinder. You just need to make sure the A/F ratio is right and it doesn't have 38* of timing in it.
Just put a GOOD plate on it that has GOOD even distrubution.
Don't let other people scare you!! Do a compression test to make sure you don't have any weak cylinders.
