white- 1990 Mustang GT
the reason i want to switch from mustangs to a TA is because the way ford has gone since 95. in my opinion the 4.6 is junk, why downsize a motor? and the whole modular thing rubs me the wrong way. also, what ever happened to mustangs being little cars with "big" engines? the 5.0's are great because they dont weigh alot. the new S197's are way to heavy and are underpowered. the gt500 is a joke, its heavy and its shelby... ford has dropped the ball bigtime with the mustang, its a joke.
ive been a ford guy my whole life, luckily i am only 19 so i think i have time to see the light haha.
to me, the 5.0's are awesome, ive had 2 of them since i was 16 and for a younger guy not making much money, that is where it is at. now that i am working electrical i am gonna be looking for a good 2000-2002 ta.

Black- Formula... soon
mustangs are more popular in movies maybe? plus mustang is probably a better name for a car than camaro. i dunno. i see like 200 mustangs a day though, seems like people would want something a little less common... guess not? no one even double looks at a mustang. pretty much everyone will tripple look or stare at a ws6/ss though

for me it wasnt about what was more popular, it was about what my dad and his dad before him drove their whole life... fords. i first got into fast cars when i was 16. i didnt know shit. i knew i wanted something, and at first i liked the 3rd gen camaros and firebirds, but i think the main reason i got a mustang is because all my family ever had was fords.
a few other reasons:
1) people seem to think working on fords is easier. every time i tell my mustang friends i am gonna buy an f-body they say "have fun trying to work on it"
2) price, the mustangs do seem to go for cheaper, especially foxes, for 5 grand you can get a really clean fox and for another 5 you can run 12's.

well, the 4th gens are unibodies, so it doesnt make it too much fun to mod or to repair anything with the engine.
fox bodies are ok, but are dogs. they are usually run to shit and "clean" is a word i would use loosely when describing them. and think about it.... 5 grand just to go 12s? thats pretty damn pathetic.
alll my family has is mustangs... first gens, 5.0s, newer gts. im surrounded by the blue oval and all i can do is shrug because my car runs a low 13 pretty damn stock.
mustangs are cheaper yes, but they are in no way a better value IMO. by the time you get a stang to run the same times as a stock or MILDLY modified f body, you will have spent the money you saved not just buying the f body in the first place......

For the most part, the 5.0 crowd on the streets has died down. Most guys have moved onto the SOHC or the DOHC 4.6 stuff. Since the SOHC is NOT a realistic competitor for the LS1, I will site the DOHC as an example... Headers are a very common performance upgrade: Put a set of headers on any LS1 powered vehicle. Then put a set of headers on a DOHC Mustang
Same goes with any internal engine work. Head/valvetrain work on the DOHC 4.6 is a nightmare compared to the pushrod GM offerings.
And if anyone here thinks it takes 5K in mods to get a Fox into the 12s, you're a complete moron! 5K into the right combo would put a Fox solidly into the 11s - again, as long as the person has a clue. They may not run with a mild LS1 from a roll, but the Fox cars put up impressive ETs at the track.

building a motor for a fox from the ground up to run 11's will cost you 5k, im talking stroker with h/c/i not your average 11 second fox with 3.73's, M/T's, and a 150 shot.

11s should be expected from a decent head and cam (with supporting bolt-ons) stock shortblock 5.0 without a power adder. Around here there are tons of TFS or AFR headed stock shortblock 5.0 cars that have run 11s without the aid of extra cubes or power adders. Good heads, valvetrain, intake, exhaust, clutch, gears and tires for a 5.0 can be had CHEAP.

People buy mustangs because the suspension isn't as sporty and it has a smoother road ride. Also, they have trunks! Most people are slobs...they gotta have somewhere to keep their junk out of site!
