I locked 'em in the hall closet and put Vaseline on the inside door knob. On good days I put a bowl of Cheerios in there and some water.
Seriously we did everything from coloring books to Barbie Dolls to reading out loud....whatever you do with your children they love it because you are doing it with them. Hell my girls spent hours "fixing" my hair and we played like they owned the beauty salon and I was a customer.....

Sarge i know exactly where you are coming from... look at my 10 year old her hair is down to her ass and its so damn thick. You literally need to lift weights to get a comb through her hair. The 2 year old is in that "daddy let me fix your hair stage" and wont stop bugging me. But it's fun (at least for her lol)

I am all ears on suggestions or advice any of you parents have, too. My wife and I became legal guardians of a great-niece when she was just six weeks old. She is the first child I've ever raised. I was laid off from a good job at the time, and although I now work a few days a week, the majority of the time I spend caring for her. She turns twenty-two months next week and thankfully is healthy and happy so far. This has been a real learning process, and it taught me a lot about patience and responsibility.

Hurts also

Now my oldest one came in my bedroom and cut off a hunk of my beard for her Sunday School project. Figured she need some real beard hair for her Joseph glue/glitter book report....I woke up and went downstars and everybody was laughing at me...so Mama showed me her "project"...I said...damn that looks like real hair...did she cut her hair?"...nope said Mama...she cut yours

My little one is my gearhead. She loves being in the shop with Dad. When she was like 4 or 5...she filled up her Mama's tea pitcher and filled up all Daddy cars and lawnmowers.....with water of course....helping the ol Dad out
Oh well....just kids trying to help...I never have raised a hand to either of my daughters....I always just tell them how I am hurt and they embarrassed themselves and the family....they just cried and cried....never did no spanking or none of that shit...

Eave is the same.....wants to help mommy and daddy all the time. She takes screwdrivers and wrenches to everything saying "I wanna fix it!" I can't buy her anything white because she just gets oil on it. With the twins and with Eave I don't spank. A five minute timeout on the forbidden couch is torcher. They are pretty good kids but they have their moments. One thing is for sure.....they grow up way too fast

heh... i take my kid to the mall to get her some barbie dolls... she wants race cars... so i drop $289.00 on car toys... her mom was mad... (me and her mom are not together)
i my eyes and mind... a child is only a child for so long... i can teach her only so much.... but her mind is her own and i can not change that... so i will teach her of the things she likes...

i've never laid a hand on my daughter either. from the very first time she threw her bottle at me. i've done the same as you. just talked to her and explain how things should be. timeout had to be implemented sometimes. she was so cute in the corner, she would turn and look at me with her sad face, so she didn't have to stay there too long.

Well I play with him/her for a few hours everyday, try to work on numbers and letters and so on to try to keep his brain going when he's not in preschool. Even let him help wash the cars but kinda has backfired on me cause he always wants to wash or dry my car by himself so he usually has a fit when I tell him no lol. Just enjoy every min you get with them and make the most of that time together.
