I've heard of guys throwing in a V8 radiator to help with the cooling of these cars.

coolant system is full, and it rises slowly then cools dramatically and slowly rises again, but it never rises to the same temp is what throws me off....

    Burp the system.

When an air bubble goes over the temp sensor the sensor tip is no longer submerged and the temps will rise. Temps drop rapidly when coolant covers it again.

When I had an MR2 I parked it on an incline to fill the coolant (the single time I did it).

yeah my SS did that awhile back, burping it fixed it.

The question is....where'd the coolant go?

What do you mean? Which section would you put a build thread in, or what would you title the thread? Name it whatever you want, and put it in the lounge if you want, or one of the tech sections. It will probably get more traffic in the lounge, especially if it had pictures as you go along.

What engines made 500+ hp from the factory? Also, the engines in the 60s and early 70s were not under the same rating system as today. They would be a lot less with todays ratings. Not trying to start anything but I dont remember any 4-speed GM vehicles with 500hp from the factoy from the 60s/70s. What were they or are you speaking of factory drag cars that came with race prepped trannys? And you can make a T5 hold a shit ton of power, just depends on how you rebuild it.

And the idea that the straight cut gears were stronger than heli's is a bunch of crap.

There were no engines rated at 500hp or higher. And yeah, I'm aware of the difference between SAE gross and SAE net power ratings. The COPO Camaros, which used a not-so-special 427, was rated at 425hp. Guys who are rebuilding them currently to stock specs, are dynoing them at over 500hp on modern engine dynos with modern ratings. The L88, which was technically a street engine, was even more powerful. The ZL1 was also touted at more like 550+hp back in the day, despite its 430hp rating. I guess the point I was trying to make was that even when guys back then did the carb/headers and tuning (which yielded a ton of power in those days), the M21s and 22s held up great.

And the second part of what you said is absolutely true. Straight cut gears main benefit is they just don't produce any thrust loads, so the trans case has less strain on it and the trans therfore has a higher rated capacity.

And I didn't know this, but the M22 still had a "helical" gear, but with just a 20 degree angle as opposed to the 45 degree gear angle from the M21.

Of course, lots of guys push a lot of power through stock comonents. We have plenty on here with high hp cars even on the stock 7.5" glass jaw. lol

In the case of this thing the OP has, I wouldnt go hog wild. Just a good engine with good power to suprise peoples.

after today it is down to bare floorpans, no heating cooling ductwork left in it, most of the mouse shit cleaned out, ready for power washing, new carpets are ordered in black, seats should be coming in tommorow along with new race wheel, hurst T-handle shift knob in red flake, push button start, and trying to figure out what im going to do with the rest of the interior pannels and such,
