With arp bolts they need to be torqued to spec and "resized" or honed to be round again because the arp bolts will cause the to be "out-of-round" and you will destroy bearings, rods, and/or crank...

Never heard of cryo-treating be it sounds interesting.

It is very popular on the internal transmission parts also. Pretty much any part which sees abuse/stress.

My Muncie 282 has a cryo treated input shaft.

I've seen turbo FWD transaxles with the slined end of a stock input shaft sheared right off.

When I talked with them I remember something about $3.50 per lb for car parts but a $100 minimum (about 28lbs).

    I know this is an old thread, but Kyle at the top said something that really bothered me;

"With arp bolts they need to be torqued to spec and "resized" or honed to be round again because the arp bolts will cause the to be "out-of-round" and you will destroy bearings, rods, and/or crank..."

I do not believe that you can re-size a "cracked rod design, can you?

You can resize them! By making them "bigger" and using over size bearings...

Are you going to use the stock, used pistons. With 650hp on tap I would check out a new set of quality forged pistons like JE. If you want the motor to live a nice long life feed it quality parts. JMO

See this build has been taking me way to long. Being in college and what not money gets tight for my fun funds! I'm running the factory ls1 with cam, 317 heads and ls6 intake. All I'm looking for is to get the car set up because replacing a motor is easy it's the fab work and fitment stuff that is the hard part.

    Hi Kyle,
Not trying to "diss you" in any way or be disrespectful, in all my years of playing with cars, 1968 to 1988, and with motorcycles, from 1988 to 2013, I have never seen bearings that were made oversize for the rod being "opened up oversize"; only the Chevy 350 crank in to the 400 ci block "spacer main bearings is about it.

If you could tell me who/ and where I can get them, I would like to see. I am using Scat "I" beam rods and do not have that concern, but the "cracked cap" design means you cannot machine them in the manner to which machine shops are used to; and to bore them out, which is why I had to purchase the aftermarket rods...... well, I cannot find any bearings that would have a larger "OUTER" diameter to compensate. They have a "thousand companies" that make bearings to compensate for the smaller crank "journal diameter" for a cut/ re-sized rod or main surface, but never heard or seen anybody for the larger outer and if you can find one, WOW!, I could use all three sets of used rods I have and get the ARP cracked rod bolt set and make them good again, after all, the LS rods are very strong, just need a little halp on the bolts!

Thank for listening to my rant.

Not to dis on you or say your lack of research was bad. But clevite makes bearings for this! Why would arp make a rod bolt that requires the rod to be "bored"/"honed" because the clamping force of the bolts misshaped the rod? Here is a part number for you clevite PN 1776-p

    Thank Kyle,
I will be looking in to this come Monday; and yes, when I need help, I don't care if you have to "diss" me to give that info out! I have never heard of this type of outer diameter increase in bearing, (plain bearings anyways!), for this issue!

Thanks again! Oh yes, I might have some 42lb short LS3 style "Fast Injectors" for sale very soon; give me a couple of weeks to see if I get the whole Fast intake and I can sell them to make room for the 80lb units I was told I need.
    And, thanks again!
