That I could not tell ya. I cannot currently remember if the Duramax comes with Displacement On Demand.

    According to Edmunds:

A: GM initially claimed the Duramax fuel mileage would be 15-20% better than that of the retiring 6.5L turbo diesel. We have learned that this prediction was a little optimistic, but the 2500HD/3500 Duramax diesel trucks are producing 17-21 mpg when driven empty and 9-13 mpg while towing. Of course, fuel economy is highly dependent on load, speed, terrain and most importantly - individual driving style. Many hundreds of Duramax owners have participated in a fuel economy poll. I get 18-20 with my current truck, so that's not bad at all.

Only thing I don't like about the Duramax is it is too quiet.

We got 12-14 with my dad's 2500 Ram prior to DPF Delete. Now that the bitch can breath, we have been averaging 17 in the summer months. Winter, with 4wd and the winter mix fuel, 13-15. This is all calculator averages not the damned overhead that everyone trusts.

edit: forgot to add that its a standard cab long box with 265/70/17 mud terrains and a contractors cap loaded on both sides and the bed half-full of tools, 2 ladders on top. remove cap, return to 245/17's street tires and expect much better economy.

Ok, that'd be great, I'll give you a shout once I know exactly where we'll be in OBX. And I'm not the kind of guy that slides into flip-flops and goes running around on the beach, not my thing, I'm hoping thats not the only thing to do out there.

    3. it is. After my uncle's 6.0 turbo fragged, he got an f-150, then a new 6.4 f-350. It's a real piece of work
Thats the 2nd time i've heard a story about the the turbos on the 6.0's exploding. Thats just ridiculous.

But on another note, I understand your grandfathers an older guy and not one of those faggot diesel ricer dudes, I was just saying, I've heard it gets pretty expensive to actually make those 6.0's reliable. And i've heard nothing but good things about the 6.4's except that they just get bad gas mileage.

[QUOTE=pajeff02;2374364]Ok -- since we have all you truck nuts on the train...

I am considering a truck to tow a car trailer -- probably an aluminum tandem axle trailer hauling a 3,600 lb. car. What do I want to get?[QUOTE]

I don't know the exact payload on these, but you might be able to just get a 2500 6.0 Vortec Silverado and tow your car and that Aluminum trailer, but I'd get a diesel just to be safe, and the 6.0 Silvy's get pretty terrible gas mileage if my memory serves me correctly. Probably the Duramax or Cummins if I had to pick a diesel though.
