This is my second go around. If two people are willing to be fair about things... the court really has no say so.
As a matter of fact, you don't need to go to court at all.
But, I know that not all marriages end as civilized as mine did. I took nothing but my Chevelles, some furniture and personal belongings. I left the house, boat, off road toys etc...
But, both my first and current husband's ex wives were not so civilized about it.
You really need to go over ground rules before marriage.

If both people agree on the division of everything you are fine. If one person does not agree then the court decides. After 6 days of marriage I had to have my wife sign over my house to me, a house that I bought before I was married to her, did not have her name on the deed, and made all the payments on. If I wanted to I could have took the spare keys to her car drove to whatever bar she was at, got in her car and drove away. Even though it was from before we were married. I had to take both my dogs to another house until the paperwork was signed because the police told her she could walk into my house and take both dogs and leave

there are a lot of horror stories out there. And, men always get screwed. The same thing with child support. I was a step mom before I was a mom and saw it first hand. I think that is partly why I handled things the way I did. I didn't want to be that way. It's just not fair the guy. We kept it all out of the courts. Just did the paper work and went about our business.
I would do it the same way today if the problem should arise.
