    book time per...
    mitchell is 11 for heads & 14.7 for camshaft = 25.7 total
    alldata time shows 13.7 heads & 15.4 camshaft = 29.1 total

these times are OBVIOUSLY inflated but dont be surprized with crazy quotes you might get

ive done a cam only swap (already had heads & springs etc) in 2 hours flat so 14-15 hours book time is RIDICLIOUS

as i said.. reasonable is 10-15 hours depending on the shop
I have not looked up the times myself- I admit this first. however the 14 hours that the camshaft calls for should include the time to remove the cylinder heads.

    hang on a sec.

    Remove the engine assembly.
    Remove the crankshaft balancer.
Remove the oil level indicator tube.
Remove the left and right exhaust manifolds.
    Remove the water pump.
    Remove the intake manifold.
Remove the coolant air bleed pipe.
Remove the left and right valve rocker arm covers.
Remove the valve rocker arms and push rods.
Remove the left and right cylinder heads.
    Remove the valve lifters.
Remove the oil pan-to-front cover bolts.
    Remove the front cover bolts.
Remove the front cover and gasket. Discard the old gasket.
Rotate the engine in order to align the timing marks.
    Remove the camshaft sprocket bolts.
Remove the timing chain from the camshaft sprocket, and allow the timing chain to rest on the crankshaft sprocket.
    Remove the camshaft.
Clean and inspect the camshaft and bearings.

this is what alldata says to do therefore time for the cylinder heads is included, anything added to this is ripping you off. It does not pay add time for heads to time for cam to time for cover to time for oil pan. You dont add the times together, they are all considered in the original time for the camshaft.....
    hope this helps.

sorry to whore up the thread but i was also wondering about this ls6 shit,

    heres my current mods:
    Pacesetter Lt's
    hooker catback
    3200 Fuddle Racing stall
    ls6 intake
    ls1 motorsports lid
    Smooth Bellow
    Ported TB
    Comp 918 springs
    Comp Cam 224 224 581 581 112+0
    FMS Hardend Pushrods
    Ls6 ported Oil Pump
    Ls2 Timing Chain

Im thinking about by used ls6 pistons, the guy is also selling heads, cam, crank and lifters. Is it worth buying the pistons and putting htem in? and if i do should i just get the heads with it? Like the guy who made this thread (sorry forgot your s/n) this is my daily driver! im pushing around 375hp right now and i want to get up to around 400 without sacrificing any gas economy

    Thanks alot

stand corrected... i briefly looked it up - didnt look to see what else it incluides... since as we all know you dont need to remove the engine to do camshaft or even heads on our cars
or pull heads to do a cam swap

so crazy time adding up like that wouldnt surprise me

like shops asking for 1.5 hrs to remove & replace a window regulator with an additional hour for diagnosis...............
so 2.5 hrs for about .75 (45 minutes) of actual work

thanks for clarifying my mistake though - i appreciate it sincerely (i dont like giving out incorrect info)

    wouldnt make any difference
ported ls6 heads alone may get you to 400

but remember dyno numbers dont matter for us since we're automatics

and as far as fuel economy.... we suck with auto's either way... but swapping ported ls6 heads wont change that
