I was pulled over once at a check point the cops had set up (in Ohio) but the guy just used the missing front plate as a reason to pull me over and make sure I wasn't drinking or whatever, then as he was turning to walk away he said if this was his car he wouldn't put one on either. I thought that was funny and kinda refreshing to hear from a cop.
Now I live in KY and it's not required here. About the only advantage to KY over OH as far as I can tell.

Pewter- 2001 Pontiac Trans Am WS6
I got a couple no plate tickets with the Beretta Z26 when I had it on the road so I gave in and threw the plate on but there is no way in hell I'm putting a plate on the front of my WS6 and ruining how good the front end looks.
Now if I can only find a way to keep the bugs from flying in front of my car. You'd think they would see my car and make way

Someone called 911 on my son and 3 of his buddies, all in seperate cars, as they were doing stupid stuff on rural roads. They pulled in a development to turn around when the cops blocked it off. If the cops witnessed it, they would have gotten wreckless op and speeding tickets. The front plate is on the T/A, but one of the other cars had it in the front window. Not good enough. That cost $135.00.

In Texas the State Troopers will pull you over in a heart beat. I have gotten busted twice, but just given warnings. Thank God. I don't want to have a front plate on. I think it takes away the smooth body line. Most of the local city cops won't bother you for that. Watch tomorrow i will be telling everyone i got a ticket from local police for that.

I run with the front plate on cause I spend alot of time in bars. Dont need to give em a reason. I also know of a few people who had the front plate cover stolen.

mine never came with the front plate cover, i asked the dealer who sold me the car used and he said he dident know.
its alright though, ive been pulled over for having the plate in the windsheild of my old car so its not really worth it anyway.

ive been pulled over for no front plate by a state trooper. I was going 70mph on the dot cause i seen him way back behind me. He hauled ass to catch up with me got about a car ahead in the next lane. Then he cruised there for about 2 miles and then without a blinker or anything he pulled right in front of me and coasted to about 55 so i passed him and he pulled me over. all i got was a warning but the whole time i was thinking about that movie "Super Troopers"

Oh man The stories I have.
Oh my god the first six months I had my car I got pulled over about a dozen times. Ready for the list of the three years since I have had the car.
In no paticular order.
1. Speeding
2. Going too slow
3. Tints
4. No front plate
5. Exhaust too loud
6. Not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign
7. Not signaling when making a turn
8. At a random check point I was pulled over because of the NOS tank in the back
9. The smoke coming from my rear end(burnout in the middle of a street)

Silver- 97 TA M6
Well I had a Typhoon with no front plate got pulled over twice and got 1 ticket. PLayed dumb and told them i bought it this way which was the truth didn't matter second time. Went to the license plate place got new plates took my receipt to the ticket place (not the station) and paid my $10. Had an 04 IMpala SS for 9 months which had a insert and never got pulled over. I kept the front plate next to the seat I used electrical tape and taped all the edges so if i got pulled over I could toss it onto the dash. Never got pulled over. I have an 05 Durango that originated from New Mexico that had no front plate and the dealer didn't put a plate on it so neither did i and have yet to be pulled over. If i do I can tell the cop I lost it when my house burned down plus it came this way. Which would be the truth. My 97 LT1 when i get the money for the bigblock hood and painting the front and rear bumpers I am going to have the front plate removed and the holes filled.

I was pulled over many...many times in a 86' Camaro, because it looked so ghetto.
Why did it look so ghetto?
Because GM in their infinite purse string tightening wisdom thought it would be a great idea to use only an electrolytic coat under the paint and skip the primer...pure genius.
Paint was peeling off of it everywhere, then where it had, it was beginning to rust.
That was in NY, on Long Island, where there's an overpaid cop every twenty feet whose only problem for the day is how many cars he's going to pull over.
Now I'm in Florida and I gotta say, cops are much cooler down here...least so far.
May sound strange, but they look at you first, ya know?
Then they make their determination...I like that.
You keep your car looking nice, don't drive like your drunk, and definitely don't drive while you are,
you should be alright.
I can't prove it but I swear, I don't know how I know, but I get the sense they want to see me get on it,
and not so they can pull me over but because they wanna see what I got. I could be wrong, maybe it's just wishful thinking, but one of these days I'll get to talk to one, hopefully only because were both getting coffee in a 7-11 or something, then I'll know. Many...many peeps into Nascar down here.
No front plate required in Florida, currently driving around with a temporary, waiting on my vanity plate.Last edited by {FzS}BlacKMagicK; 01-23-2007 at 09:09 PM.

Wow,,,honboy actually sounds like a nice cop. I live in Ohio and I have yet to run into a nice cop, they always seem to be bothered when they pull me over,,,lol. I actually have alot of friends on the force, used to work out with them for many years and became good friends.
I drive mainly old muscle cars that stick out like sore thumbs so I get picked out of the crowd pretty regular for really stupid things.
I average getting pulled over about 3-4 times a year but generally never get a ticket, it's for stupid things.
I run model year tags on most of my old cars, which are registered as historical vehicles, then an affidavid is filled out to run model year tags. Most cops don't know what these are, and I get pulled over regularly for this. Since it happens on a regular basis I keep all the paperwork with me now,,,it just speeds up the process so I can get on my way faster.
I have been pulled over for exhaust, running drag radials, and other silly things, since my older cars have the option of wearing just your lap belt and no shoulder belt, the cops seem to be pissed when they walk up to the car and see the lap belt, thinking they had me nailed for a seatbelt ticket. Also been pulled over for improper wearing of a seatbelt, taking the shoulder belt and putting that behind me, as I can't stand it rubbing on my neck,,,, I could go on for days about but back to the original question of front plates.
I don't run front plates on either my 97 Z28 or my 02 SS. For alot of reason really. They are required here in Ohio.
My 97 was bought new here in Ohio, but never had the front plate installed, therefore the holes are not drilled, and I cannot bring myself to drill the holes. So in an attempt to at least have them displayed, I mounted the front plate under the car on the air dam. If you stand back from the car about 10 feet or so it is visible, although it's not out in direct sunlight. I have still been pulled over for this, being told this is a grey area and I could get a ticket, but the last 2 times I have gotten off with warnings. I mean geewiz it's displayed and if you look for it,,you can see it. Putting it on the dash is not an option for me,,,damn thing flies off and it's kinda sharp, could cause an accident or something, or fly off if your in an accident,,,so I avoid this idea.
I don't have anything on the 02 SS either,,,since it has the optional SS front grille and no place to mount a plate. Haven't been hassled with this car yet, but if it persists I may do the same thing and mount the plate on the air dam under the car, it may be a grey area but at least I am making an attempt. Eventually I will run into a cop that is a total ass and give me a ticket,,,but that won't make me drill holes in the car,,,just can't do that.
Plan on moving to Arizona soon, hopefully they don't require the front plate,,,anyone know? Larry.

Oh I take that back,,,I did get pulled over once by a really cool cop,,,driving my SS 454 chevelle, and I was speeding a little, not much, but didn't realize it. He was cool, liked the car alot,,,,and just told me to slow down, he didn't want to give me a ticket and make my insurance rates to go up, and liked to see these old cars on the road,,,,honest,,,he was that cool. So there are a few good ones out there. Larry.

yes the long island cops are pricks most of the time, thats what you get when you are the highest paid officers in the country. i have been ticketed about 5 times for no front plate in my old Z28. i had to throw it on because the $90 tickets get expensive after awhile, especially when you are getting tint tickets too.

screwed by shawnee county police dept.
so yea these bastards love giving tickets. not the topeka police dept unless they are motorcycle cops. but shawnee county. i've gotten tickets for: IMPROPER USE OF A STOP LIGHT!, exhibition of noise, exhibition of speed, illegal exhaust, illegal fuels, suspesion of street racing, speeding 68 ina 65, exhibition of deceleration, improper lane changes (it was slick and my tires slid a lil bit on the ice, wreckless driving (burnout) exhibition of power (second gear chirp) the list goes on. but the topeka police have been cool with anybody who has a car that makes some actual power.

Even so, I will be bringin my T/A to NY to cruise on DPA/231, most of my family lives in North Babylon, and I wanna race my uncle's worked 69' Buick GS 4 speed and my cousin's WS6, before I do, I'm puttin in a line-lock, gonna be puttin on few smoke shows. Probably comin back wit a handful of tickets.
Florida hasn't issued two plates in 84 years! That's a whole lotta metal and paint saved or a lot less work for convicts, depending on how ya look at it. Next time one of you get pulled over for it, tell em' your trying to keep the weight down for racin'...just to see his face.
Hey I wonder what they would say if I stuck two beer cans in my fog light holes?
Besides "Your under arrest" that is.
I could play dumb and tell 'em, "I thought that's what those holes were for."Last edited by {FzS}BlacKMagicK; 01-25-2007 at 09:43 PM.
