I have to second this whole quote. I didnt get all the way through this thread yet, but why not upgrade to a larger rotor and caliper? You could revamp your entire braking system. Like the CTS-V setup.

Not sure if I am ready to spend that kind of money on brakes when a simple rotor swap will suffice just as well.

Agree. The brake upgrade on our car was very reasonable and it was a huge improvement. Maybe if you planned on getting into auto-x then you could justify the swap to larger brakes, but for 1/4 mile fun you'll want to stick with the stock size rotors for wheel clearance.

Closest track to me is about 30 miles one way.
They are expensive and I have seen a couple pairs rub before. Wasn't by much but enough to be pissed about. Bogart won't warranty them if you've been driving them on the street though. You'd want to wash them regularly if you cruise on them

Why is EVERYTHING so expensive for this hobby?
I have the CTS V set up and it was very affordable, around $600 but I already had the 18"+ wheels required unless you want to grind the wheel and caliper. I would do it if you have the funds.

My wheels are the 35th LE wheels and I do not plan on swapping them out or grinding on them. They are stock size for a SS; 17".

Just an idea, you could do the c5 upgrade then.

How much larger are the C5 rotors compared to the Camaro OEM size? How many pistons are in the calipers? No grinding for fitment involved? I assume the conversion only comes in a standard blank rotor? What else needs to be changed to make the conversion?

    From UMI's website:

Benefits of Running the C5 Set Up

    1. Larger Rotors: The larger rotor absorbs and radiates more heat, the C5 rotor is 1” larger then the LS1 rotor and 2” larger then the LT1 rotor
    2. C5 Rotors are directional unlike the LT1 and LS1 set ups. C5 rotors feature fins designed to advance air flow allowing better cooling.
    3. Many brake pad and rotor options are available for all types of driving
    4. The C5 calipers are pressure cast not gravity cast, this helps increase caliper life
    5. Unlike other brake set ups, C5 components can be purchased at any parts store. This eliminates down time when an item may fail or require quick replacement

I'll consider that. Thanks for the info. I just hate how the calipers will say "Corvette" though. I personally do not like when I see Corvette badges on calipers or fuel rail covers when you own a Camaro or TA.

I completely agree, once again, I also think that looks tacky as hell. A little resurface work can fix that, and if the text isn't indented into the actual metal caliper piece, than a few coats of caliper/ceramic pain will take care of that no problem.

Yeah I don't like it saying Corvette on the caliper either. Although, mine say "V" and it isn't too bad but when I get the funds to get them power coated they will say “WS.6" I have seen some c5 upgrades that don't say Corvette I believe, but maybe it was painted over.

I'm surprised that UMI or another manufacture/distributor hasn't went to the vendor who makes the caliper casting and done just that with the growing need/want for a brake upgrade from the LS1 community. Seems like it would be an inexpensive thing to do if the cavity/mold of the casting was done as an insert for the lettering portion.

I would just grind the caliper smooth if I went with something like that. Don't they make decals or something for calipers? No interest in them, but I remember seeing some posted on here.

I've seen them Jeff. My only issue with a C5 or CTV conversion is getting wheels for the track.

I'd hate to have to spend $1500 on just 2 custom wheels in order to be able to run DR's. I also don't like that I have to grind off the OEM calibers to fit Pro Stars.

To me it weakens the caliber. Fine for track use only but my car is both strip/street. I've seen drag calibers but they are not rated for hwy use.
