^^Agreed. You just said that you were have been married for 27 years and it takes work. Then you just tell this guy to ditch her??? What happened to work on it like YOU said YOU had to do in your own marriage.

OP, I feel you on the wife and being messy but by no means is that a reason to leave her. Im sure thats not really a thought in your head at this point (MAYBE??). Just takes time.

On the "GUY FRIEND" thing...I feel like when I got married it was because we are each others best friend. For some guy, past or present, to be taking up the little time you have with her would bother me. Now, if they did his hair and bounced straight to the wedding, COOL. If it was a guy friend that you knew for a long time, as in longer than me, or a guy you work with and went to lunch cause its just convienient type of thing, COOL. If you think for one second that you would go out with some other guy WITHOUT me there, NOT COOL. Just my opinion on it and I can say that its not an insecurity thing. More of a respect for my spouse thing.

Some good advice I got when I was getting married for the second time . . .

Marriage is not 50/50! It is 75/75. Each person must feel they are doing/giving more than the other for it to work.

In other words if you feel you are doing your fair share you are not. You must feel like you are doing more than your share.

If you feel like you "give in" just as much as you partner, then you are not "giving in" enough.

OP I can understand your situation. I'm not the neatest. Dusting, mopping and other stuff like that can wait till I'm not as busy. But I do not like clutter. When you put something down or take your clothes off, PUT THEM WHERE THEY GO! Don't leave your dirty clothes in the floor of the bathroom, living room, bed room.

When you take the extra time to put your stuff where it goes, it is very hard to go behind someone else and pick their stuff up. And I normally don't.

This issue seems very small to me. Spend a day together cleaning. It doesn't take but a few hours to organize a house, unless it looks like hoarders.

It's more common sense than insecurity. Why would a woman want to hang out with another man that isn't her husband? The husband is suppose to be the best male friend in her life and vica-versa. It's not like it's girly time to chit-chat, get nails done and go shopping. We're guys and we're all the same...none of us like to do that unless you're gay. If someones wife wants to spend what little free time there is with a "guy friend" instead of her husband then there's something very wrong IMO. Anything that can be done with her "guy friend" can be done with her husband.

Horrible advice and like someone stated it doesn't make sense when compared to your "marriage takes work" post.

Well I can tell you first hand it makes a difference because i'd be divorced right now if I married my ex...but after living with her there's no way in hell. Which article is this? How can they accurately compare data from "couples that changed their minds about marriage after living together 1-2 years but otherwise would've been divorced" vs current divorce rates? They'd have to take a massive poll and then count those numbers as divorces into the current rates. I just can't see how that wouldn't raise the current divorce rate...sorry.

true, but I have female friends as well that I hang out with. Ive never done anything out of line with them, and never will, so who am i to tell her who she cant and cant be friends with.

and i found out later that she had told me he was coming over and i forgot...she was shaving his head into a mohawk and dying it pink for a wedding....long story

If you DON'T trust your wife, you shouldn't have married her in the first place. Pretty simple.

Nobody tells me who I can and can't hang out with, so I wouldn't expect to tell someone else that either. Sounds like a control freak.

Now if you barely seen one another and had only one day a week to enjoy one another and she's off with some guy friend all day, yeah that's shady. Most marriages don't consist of NEVER seeing your significant other though. Those types of relationships typically end in divorce.

Bingo......I was going to post that very thing. I could give a shit who my wife hangs out with because I completely trust her.

Thanks Orion.....having trust has eased a lot of tension with us, especially since we both have a lot of friends of the opposite sex....
