I have a bagless upright I paid about $150 for from Target. If there is shit on the floor, it picks it up. The floor looks clean.
How do all you people in here claiming the fame that Dyson is the best vacuum on the planet tell the difference from my statement above?
Do you take out your old vacuum and clean the floor and then take out your Dyson to clean the floor again in the same exact spot and see if the Dyson picks up additional dirt?

That is exactly what I did when I brought it home and used it for the first time. I had (still do) a Kenmore Canister (that cost me around $379 as I recall) and was amazed. Made me realize just how disgusting wall to wall carpet is even when it looks clean
I shampoo it every year too.
Like I said, I've suffered allergies all my life. Not so much anymore

Have you did that test in reverse? Using the Dyson first?

As a matter of fact, I did. My Kenmore, which I swore by for many years (still use it for bare floors, uprights are a pain on bare floors IMO) picked up next to nothing.
I'm convinced.

Dunno if this helps but quite a few carpet makers will not warranty your carpet if you use a Dyson on them. Apparently, it has so much suction or whatever that it can unravel the carpet strands.

And do they clearly state on their carpets before you buy them that you can't use a Dyson?
I reckon they are telling you selling a Furphy!!

I've also got a Dyson and SO FAR it's been awesome. I reserve final judgement for 3 years from now when it still has as much suction as day 1 (like the man claims it should).
I'm sure there are better vacuums out there, but I have trouble believing that I can get one of those for less than the $240 I paid for my Dyson. That's already more than I think I should pay for a vacuum, so anything above that price I already don't like.
