I disagree....kids that blow people away most likely come from 2 different types of families. Family's that don't give a shit about their kids and families that are abusive. Nothing wrong with some good ole discipline. Does a kid good.
I'm probably harder on my kids than most are these days but I also do my best not to take it too far. I don't spank on a regular basis but they both know I will and that's usually enough. One thing I do not tolerate is defiance. After they're out of the house they can be rebelious all they want but for the time being what I say goes and it's not open for debate. They get in more trouble asking "why" than anything else. When I tell them to do something "why" has nothing to do with it....just do it.

Damn! It's not that serious No one got hurt. I happen to have raised a pretty decent kid myself. I get all that.

But, we're talking about an adequate punishment that fits the 'crime'. In my world, detention for a few hours after school would have been just. Isn't that what all the other smart asses get? Or do they all get suspended now too?

This is all opinion and your opinion on this, to me, doesn't reflect on you as a parent. I'm probably more strict than most and to me this is a kid spitting in the face of authority and that's a major no-no to me. Kids haver zero rights....when they're living on their own they get an equal say. Until then they should be seen and not heard.

it's too cold to do that right now anyhow so there's no sense in grounding him from that. I have however taken just about everything else away from him. Hell, one day last week neither of them were allowed to play with ANY of their toys, or watch tv, or color/draw. Their options for the whole day were to sit on the couch doing nothing or clean their rooms. That's what happens here when you leave your shit laying all over the house after you've been asked repeatedly to clean it up....it gets taken away. Now we're at "no toys out of the bedooms for any reason." I get tired of stepping on/over shit all the time.

Kids these days (mine included) just have to much shit. Zach and Chloe get more gifts in one x-mas than I got my entire childhood. It makes them not respect anything. It drives me up the wall watching him leave shit laying all over the place and it get broken.

When i was young and did something wrong, i got smacked and guess what, i didnt do it again.
