while I agree that the viper won't get ferrari power. Making a high volume model with a V8 sounds like a prudent business move given the current state of the vette model line.

Also the ferrari engine isn't a pie in the sky idea. With FIAT owning chrysler and ferrari it's a simple model of tech sharing for the two cousins. Problem is that the ferrari design language and resulting "refinement" of their engines isn't in line with the message of the Viper.... which is something more along the lines of a sledgehammer or wrecking ball. A big honking large displacement lopey cam V8 screams viper.

Second thought. A V8 model with FIAT multiair technology and possibly other fuel saving tricks might be necessary to allow the V10 viper to live thanks to the new CAFE rules. Imagine a viper getting no guzzler tax a la vette?

they get 25 mpg in the charger with a 5.7, i'm sure a double overdrive backed car that is more aerodynamic and 1200 pounds less could get it with either a 6.1 or 6.4 as well. the v10 gets 12/22 now I believe

Damm shame the Viper as we know it is being discontinued. It was a real American sports car that beat up on cars 10 times its price.

More than anything else I liked the first gen GTS coupe's "cocky sneer" as Motor Trend called it.

I was just about to post how these cars ran 12 seconds flat in the quarter back in the late 90's all for about 60-65k...

    then i realized....

65k back in 1997 or so, right after the GTS coupe hit the scene, is not quite the same today....

65k then is the equivalent of 86k today.... can anyone think of a car that can run faster than 12 flat in the quarter for less than 86k?

Right! That pesky Nissan GT-R thingamajig running 11.5's for like 75k

    Progress is a wonderful thing!

If we had the outrageous spending of the nineties today, Nissan would probably be selling that car for a lot more.

Or just put better tires than the Supercars on the Z06. I like a light car with great all-around performance, not a car with weight like a tank and a turbo 6-banger that is quick out of the hole due to a magic AWD system and stump-pulling gears. Plus a 7.0 LS7 >3.8 VQ38DETT V-6 IMHO.

That car had the $10000 Z07 package plus the $3,995 CFZ package (same as the Carbon without being limited edition) and they probably added Nav ($1,795) and started with a 3LZ ($82,425). I ran that combo at GM's website and it came out to $98,560. For somebody who just wants the performance goodies, the base model can be purchased for $74,305 and with the Z07 package comes to $84,750.

The gtr is not faster than the c6 z06 in a straight line, gtr is a 11.7 car at 118-120mph, z06s have gone 10.9 bone stock at 127mph. And remember you cant launch a gtr without voiding the warrenty

Found out the viper has a cam inside the cam. Fully independent vvt for intake and exhaust. Gm has apparently been testing this and might use it for the gen 5 small block. Ohc officially offers no advantages now (inb4 valvetrain mass is an issue at eleventy billion rpm, build a big boy motor and it won't be a problem)

I like seeing the graphs for a Z06 vs a GTR from 0-150. GTR moves out off the line, then the Z starts to hook and reel the GTR in, and by 120 the Z passes the GTR and continues to put distance on it that the GTR can do nothing about.
