That was actually debunked I believe one of the news organizations set it up to explode on camera.. But the damage was done, GM made changes shortly there after I believe.

That's why I called them the non-exploding exploding ones. They don't explode but they were said to. Yeah, I think they ended up investigating the video and it blew up just before impact. They were fine... Now mine, I don't like. Plus having the filler right behind the window stanks. I will miss explaining the sloshing sound to new passengers when we put a tank under the bed. Yeah, that's 20 gallons of grade-a gas-o-line taking a ride in the cab with us.

They're pretty heavy cars. The hood and front end are not metal, but much of the rest is. There's driver error (too many young "punks") and maybe some skimping on suspension maintenance by such owners. I think the big problem with the car itself is handling. It's terrible. When I had to abort a lane change on the highway (Trans Am), I didn't over-correct and yet I almost swerved into a truck. The car was weaving, and it wasn't due to a worn-out suspension or very worn tires. There probably was a cross-wind, but a heavy sports car shouldn't be so affected. The rear-while drive contributes to the poor handling, I think. I suspect that in many one-car accidents, handling makes the difference between staying on the road and crashing. Firebirds might handle slightly better than Camaros, but I don't want any part of a debate.
