I didn't get any hardware, however I had 1200 tiny F'ing staples in both legs and combine 1600 stiches inside and out.....took 2 two hr sessions to remove them....

Yeah man, your picture is probably worth way more than 1,000 words....it looks as bad as it is, I'm sure.

Doc did a great job. Pretty close to how it was, strength and flexibility-wise. I'm going to try and get in the army with it.

Dr told me he had to go thru each muscle group and look for any dead tissue. I had 4 ops in the same week. Morphine was my best friend for the 8 weeks that I was in the hospital. 3 in ICU.

Shitty feeling. Laying in a hospital bed for weeks on end. Closest thing to memories of being a baby; in that I felt utter helplessness. Helps with the healing though, wanting to be more independent and refusing the help. Gah bad memories.

I knew I was going to get better between my 2nd and 3rd op. The nursing staff came in with a chair that had a toliet seat on it and a bed pan. They said I have 2 choices. I told them they forgot about number 3. I pushed both legs over the edge of the bed, stood up on my cast and tried dragging myself to the bathroom. Told them I be damn if I can't use porcelain. THey grab hold and made me wait till they got a walker. I refused to let them carry me over to it. HARDEST DAMN THING I have ever done in my life. I have been shot at, almost ran over, almost blown up more then once. Everything else was easy compare to walking 10 feet that day. Took me 30 min to recover enough to get up and go back to the bed.

I have to say this, I am a very, VERY LUCKY man. My wife stood by me and has help pushed me when the times called for it. I couldn't blame her if she had walked away then, but she tuff it out for all of us, her and our kids. Needless to say, when she asks for stuff I get it without any fuss, she has earn it (not that she asks for much anyways. )

I know what you're talking about man. They stood me up the day after the accident. I also had an inoperable shattered pelvis, two broken lumbars, and a broken sacrum. Most painful shit of my life. Hot nurses though.

Hahahaha. Yeah my bro is a medic. I've seen some of the women in his company; they would not win any beauty pageants haha. Funny thing is they're kind of skanks, so says my brother lol.

Damn man that's terrible. Hope you can run again someday, it's one of my favorite things to do...

I've got a few scars, but they're nothing compared to what you guys have got...

I got this weird stretch mark kinda scar on my back from when I gained wayy too much muscle mass way too fast when I was training for football. Faded a little but I can still feel it when I run my hand over it.

I got one when I was two, right above my right eye. Fell off my chair onto a cold-air vent. Mom was two feet away watching it happen in slwo motion helplessly. My dad threw up when he got to the hospital.

Other than that it's mostly football scars. Got a weird baggy scar on the back of my elbow, it's always kinda puffy. Couple on my knees.

Got this really cool scar on my hand, too, from when I was practicing and my hand got caught in between my chest plate and some other guys during a play. The scar is in the shape of the mesh from my practice jersey, pretty cool shit.

But yeah, nothing on you guys...

    That's amazing man.

I have a question; don't take it the wrong way.

It sounds like you're pretty physically limited. Looking back, do you regret the decision to keep your legs below the knee and having to live with everyday pain? They're doing pretty amazing things with artificial limbs now (i.e., I've seen double amputees running, playing sports, getting around without very many limitations).

While not the same, I had three levels of my spine fused (L3-S1) due to unbearable everyday pain (third back surgery, which I swore after each I'd never do again) and don't regret a minute of it. It was the most painful thing I've ever been through and took ~1 year to recover, but I've been pain free since '06.

Anyhoo, best of luck to you bro. While i can relate, I can't even imagine the pain you went through.

I wish more than I care to amit that I had had the choice. It was never offer to me. I stand today about 50-50 on which one I would take most days. But in the first 2 yrs I would have said I wanted them to take 'em.

I can move short distances like around the house without the crutch, but with artificial limbs now, double amputees running; getting around without very many limitations, makes me envious of them some days.

I was on pain meds until this yr. I one day said no more. I ain't doing this shit no more. Told VA screw it I coming off the meds and see what I can do. Still no changes, just the same amount of pain.

I may be able to challenge your claim to the largest scar.
I'll have to see if I can dig up some old photos and scan them in.

Got into a bad motorcycle accident 16 years ago. Broke both arms one leg and the other foot.
