i guess i cant complain..car was $3800 and it already has at least $1500 worth of mods to it..nice system, not hooked up right though, but with the SS conversion done except for the wing car was good deal anyways. i guess $2400 for a Tick 600 ft lb rebuilt 2 year warrantied t56 with Viper specs (got the spec sheet on the tranny i gotta post it). I dont know what the hell i can do differently right now the car is outside the tranny shop, no tranny in it, in peices on the bench. i guess i could pay another $200 to tow it somewhere else..ahhh the problem is im in a state where sales tax is %7..labor $90 hr almost...sooooo WHAT THE !@$%^$# $3,230.88 installed AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGhhhhhhhhhh

Just saw this thread, I've been out of touch lately. I recently had my T56 rebuilt, with a level 4.5 upgrade from RPM transmissions, including an LS7 clutch kit/upgraded slave cylinder, for $2750. They charged $350 to R&R the trans. My problem was the pilot bearing went bad, ruining my input shaft. My rebuild included the input shaft single cone, 1/2 synchro and 5/6 synchro assembly, first gear single cone, steel 3/4 shift fork, HD synchronizer keys, compressed carbon blocking rings single cone 7 pcs, bronze fork pads and shifter bushing. 90 day warranty, but should be good to go for at least another 100k miles. Works great now! My OE clutch wasn't worn out yet, but I figured I may as well do it all once and be done. Car now has 118k on her.

Labor rate sounds in the ball park. I see close to that in some shops here. Your tax isn't bad though, I sure do miss 6-7% sales tax. Out here you pay between 9 and 10% depending on whether you are on state land or indian reservation land. (Reservation land being cheaper).

Easy for me to say-i know BUT chalk it up to experience, learn from it,dont do it again and.....move on! Im sure im not the only one on here thats had a shady purchasing/pricing experience whether its for a car or t.v. etc etc, sometimes it happens were you say shit! i shouldnt have done this or that but its all about learning from your mistakes-thats life...hope your tranny turns out ok and all!

So how does it shift now? You have a $7K car now, probably about right, and a 2 year warranty with some Viper pieces for $500 more than what I paid is not a bad deal. How is the clutch engagement? Smooth or on/off? Stiff pedal?

im finally picking up the car tomorrow guys, and ill let you know what a $2400 rebuild with a 2 year warrantied t56 feels like. this is what the new trans thats in the car has had done to it as far as i know:
    -Viper main shaft
    -bronze fork pads
    -billit keys
    -carbon fiber blocker rings
    -steel 3-4 shifter fork
-viper 2nd gear (whatever that means)
    -new bearings

this is as far as i know from what ive been told has been done...i dunno how accurate this is but ill know more tomorrow when i pick up the car...

sounds like a standard viper spec build... that tranny should handle 700hp no prob. the viper 2nd gear just means its the new improved version. t56 2nd gears that came in our cars used short engagement teeth which got rounded off easy... later t56's got the viper 2nd gear which has longer teeth and is stronger. also dont be surprised if the t56 is harder to shift for a bit in the 3-4 area. the billet keys will take a while to wear in and can make the shifting a bit notchier.

apparently, they put in a Tranzilla tranny. part number t56-017 in the car. i know Rockland Gear makes these trannies but thats whats in it and man its a beast. picked up the car yesterday. Said it will handle anything i throw at it. I know all you guys have had Tick build your trannies but i never hear much about the Tranzilla T56's. the car shifts unreal, almost like a gated six speed, gears feel like they are straight cut almost, heel toe downshifting with clutchless upshifts no problem pedal is a little stiff for my liking, may upgrade to a adjustable later on since the stock MC was ok,they put Motul DOT 5 synthetic in there for hydraulic fluid and man that makes a difference in pedal smoothness. clutch release is a LOT QUICKER, it had a new throwout put in there obviously too. its gonna take a little while for everything to break in but i was told 650 ish WHEEL HP with this thing wouldnt be a problem. they didnt even tell me it was gonna be a Tranzilla except for the placard on the side of the trans when i went underneath and looked.

i dont know sh&% about the Tranzillas other than ive heard of em so.....off we go

If the job is 2.5 hrs and the cost is $200, that would be $200/2.5 hrs = $80/hr. Not sure where you get $40 from.

    You paid $800/2.5 hrs = $320/hr

i was saying if it pays 4 hours to pull a transmission, not put it back in, then yea $200 would actually be $25/hr labor..if it was $80/hr like it is here, than to pull the tranny and put it back would be $600. i guess depends on how much time they give to pull a tranny. labor rates here in taxachussettes are minimum $85/hr and they charged me 4hrs to pull the trans...$2450 for the Tranzilla, then another 4 hrs to put it in.
    %6.25 sales tax too
sure wish it was only 2.5 hrs to take out a tranny AND put it back in.

Sorry, but it does not take 4 hours to pull a transmission and another 4 to put it back in. It takes about an hr to 1.5 hours to install one for an average person who knows what they are doing. I have friends who have installed one in 30 minutes.

Even if they had to remove the exhaust, drive shaft, torque arm, etc it wouldn't take that long. That's just absurd they charge that much time. I personally would complain if they charged me 8 hrs of labor to R&R a T56.

Mine just dropped on me and it cost me 1800.00. It sounds really good now with a distant whine like a race car. All the bearings were replaced. I feel like I paid for a good job. But I guess time will tell... I don't plan on getting rid of this car.....EVER!!!!

i know i got hosed and coulda had this done for cheaper. The trans by itself with a 2 year anything-goes warranty was $2450, with new slave. totaled up to $3200, OUCH AAAAAAAAAAARRRGGGGHHHH. but..i didnt have much of a choice. i was quoted over $4000 at 2 other shops near by, and i coulda towed it to the closest LSX specialist, Slohawks performance in Bridgewater mass, who frequents LS1tech, but then i woulda probably had to pay at least $200 just for the tow out there, 75 mile tow from here. i guess the price for the tranny wasnt bad, but yea, ridiculous money for install and removal here where i live where the cost of living is well....as an example, a 400 sq/ft apartment here is $900 a month...so yea i need to move..

anyways its done, i only had to pay for the tranny, i had help with the labor payment from the guy i bought the car from so its not that bad, its just wierd no one on here has heard of the Tranzilla guys...1200 ft lb capacity T56's they build. Im thinking i got the son-of-tranzilla in the car now...i gotta get a photo of the data plate on the tranny to make myself feel better considering i cant do anything about what i paid. Live and learn i guess. $1800 i hear Herculesrider1 paid for his tranny, im curious where you live and what did the shop charge for remove and replacement?
