you have to take into consideration the market and the need to sell. I saw a T/A on here i think it was a 2001 with like 25k miles he's asking over 20 grand which is 5 grand over book, ridiculous. Get on autotrader and look around and when you find one ask around on here to see if a member can look at it for you. there are a lot of knowledgeable and willing people on here that will do it and give you a good opinion about the car. Whats better than getting a new t/a and then taking it for a 500 mile cruise back home?

Black- 2001 Trans-Am
13k plus license and tax. Plus I bought the 2yr/24k warranty on the off chance something goes seriously wrong. With my luck its always best to hedge your bets.
At 13k thats about a thousand under book for those miles and condition, but with the economy as it is now I can't imagine these guys doing a whole lot of business. Not to mention its an 8 cylinder with gas prices on the rise. Not exactly a family car either, which of course is one of the reasons I love it...
Back in '01 I actually test drove a new one with an automatic. After driving my manual though I gotta say go for the 6spd! You won't be disapointed.

White- 2002 Pontiac Trans Am
My New Addition to the family.. TA #2
A couple of weeks ago, I was undecided about what to buy as the post states. After some long hours of researching I finally bought my 2nd TA, all black on black m6 and loving it. I bought the 2000 with 58XXX miles I was looking at sometime ago. It has been a blast so far and now looking to mod it up, starting off with the lid and full exhaust. I will post up pics under a new thread soon. I have an original US Exotics ws9 unpainted hood to put on her "Damn I feel like breakdancing!!"
Thanks to all for your input, very helpfull info.

Black- BLK TA modded 12.2@113mph
funny
People buy WS6's and change the shocks install an SLP lid change the exhaust ,sway bars and rims why pay more for a WS6 the badge is $100 bucks I was looking at buying a WS6 but for the same var in a Trans AM it was a lot more cost effective for me to buy a low mileage TA and buy a Ram air hood and do the mods that I was going to do anyway Just a thought...

Those prices do seem kinda high. I've seen mechams with 55k go for 17k. I bought ym 2000 ws6 2 yrs ago for 8k. granted I got a really good deal those should sell for around 10k a peice, thats what mine was posted at.

This fall there was a 98 WS6 6-speed with 33k miles, 2nd owner selling it and had it since 2001 or so for under 10k. Black with black interior and t-tops. Deals are out there.

Blue/green- 1998 Trans AM
The only problem with the price coming down on these is they no longer make them, which in turn will make the demand go up for all the T/A lovers.
Just like any good car, take care of it, it will keep its value, and just enjoy the ride!

Another thing. All WS6 cars had the 3.23 rear gear. All TAs had either a 2.73 or the 3.23. If your gonna swap it out for a 3.73, it doesn't matter anyway. Speaking of AT cars. All TAs with M6 had the 3.42 rear ratio, WS6 or not. Same applies for SS Camaros/Z28s.

1999 Formula WS6 M6-sold- 2001 Silverado Z71
The cylinder heads may make a little difference also. Yes they were rated at more horsepower, but really...there probably isn't much HP difference.
