Yep.. every state is different.. which is STUPID! WI was only 7.. FL I was told does not allow you to cover the Orange in the center... some only allow 6... etc. But then again, some states require 2 plates.. others only require (and send) the rear... would be nice if they could sit down and come up with some consistency..

illinois requires front plates.
my buddy got pulled over in his srt-4 because he didn't wanna block his intercooler, so he put it on his dash, you know by the windsheild, and the cop fined him for it. WHAT IS THAT!!!! what an idiot

Yeah, when I was in WI.. I took mine off.. and it was fine for 7 years.. was pulled over cause I left a known party spot.. and he was looking for empties.. but since I wasn't drinking.. he has to give me a warning for that.. (told him the bracket was in the trunk broken from a snow bank.. lol)

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
Cali allows 7 letters/spaces + 1/2 space but you have to have a front plate (CVC5200 - got tagged several times for it so I know it by heart). AZ on the other hand only allows any combination of 7 letters and/or spaces but the state has to approve the combination. You are not required to have a front plate though which markedly improves the front of any car.
