Maybe, just maybe, he felt that you would 'lord it over him' the fact that you pulled strings at the bank, the special deal- Maybe he didn't want to start out with his new house with the feeling that, somehow, he 'owed' you- Heck, every time you stopped in he would have to thank you again- probably better to keep business deals like this between strangers that you won't have to deal with again-
