The Pro 5.0 is well worth the money IMO.
yea the guy that built my tranny said the stock hurst short throw will throw the gear too far and mess it up in the long run, and he said a pro 5.0 is like nite and day difference and I really need one............

All he is saying is that some shifters don't have shifter stops. They are just a simple nut and bolt that most good aftermarket shifters have.

The stops are there so you don't over strain the shifter forks, gears etc...and it stops the shifter right where it should be.

i actually bought a short stick and i hated it. i liked the look, but hated how rough the transitions were. it also vibrated like crazy because there was no bushing at the bottom. what i did instead was i took the factory hurst stick and cut the "s" bend out of it and welded it back together. shifts are smooth as can be, quiet, and looks good. also, its free!

ill try and post some pics of the actual stick

also, i know with any car, the shifter tends to get sloppy and the throws can feel loose. which is why some people may have noticed such a huge difference with a new shifter setup. but my car only has 20k miles on it, so i didnt really see the point in swapping out something that worked perfectly fine. i dont really see how you would want your throws any shorter.

Nope. Just the limit of gear movement stops the shifter, and thats not real good on parts if you really start hammering on it.

Yep I've suggested this mod in other threads. Did this a few times for people that didn't have a welder and it actually works very well. And as you said,,,,it costs nothing. There is really no need to spend money on a short stick.

I just put an MGW shifter in my vert last night. Night and day difference over the stock or optional hurst. Shifter is a little pricey but quality is great. Throws are very short and very precise, I'm sure I will never miss another 3rd gear. Looks like it belongs in the car too.

I was told by the guy that built my tranny that a stock shifter actually throws the shift too far, thats why aftermarket shifters have set screws so that the parts in the tranny go right where they are supposed too....u get it now?....and he said the pro 5.o is like nite and day, he says I wont miss any gear anymore, and they pretty much just shift it to the gear for you..........

Pretty much all manual transmissions are this way, which is why you'll see set screws in all the good aftermarket shifters.
