Follow-up question for any cops... when you were a child did you dream of one day having a badass job pissing everyone off and 90% of the time being a revenue generator for the city?

I have been busting my ass for quite some time to become an officer, and no pissing off people is not my dream. I know it’s a thankless job and the pay isn't that good. When you hear people say "where is cop when you need one" and never doing about it... There where I step in. When you work your ass off for years to buy a kick ass car then it gets stolen and I happen to catch him on a random traffic stop because it didn’t have front plates...Your Welcome. Charging balls first into a home full of cracked out gang bangers to serve a murder warrant..Your welcome. I love the "I pay your salary!" line, as if cops don’t pay taxes. So if you want to get technical... I'm paying my own salary...Your Welcome Cops have to follow laws too, after catching the guy that just raped your 15 year old sister, I'm sure you won't mind if I broke both his shoulders while handcuffing or toss him feet first into the car then doing 80mph brake checks all the way to the station until his teeth are all over the floor...Your Welcome I have gotten my share of tickets as a kid and I couldn’t stand cops either. And there are parts of the job that sucks, example.. Some young girls calls the cops because her boyfriend is “beater” her and you get there and she starts pointing to a bug bite on her neck. We know the guy didn’t do anything and she is just pissed off because he dumped her. It's not up to us, you still have to haul him off. But for the same reason you hate your dad for spanking you as a kid. Someone has to step up, even if that means nobody will like you for it...Your welcome

Good point(s). Not a cop, but have friends who are. The only cops that I've ever known to be gung-ho a-holes are new small-town city cops on traffic patrol, pissed off because they didn't make the cut on drug task force (taking this from my friend's personal witness of such people). I had a new city cop pull me over for "illegal use of fog lights", looking for an excuse to pull me over. I also had a cop pull me over because my tail lights were out, but he was an experienced officer, and only wanted to help. There are a-holes in EVERY occupation...so don't hate on every cop you see, because the majority of them took the job to help and protect our society.

I'd suggest answering that type of question by just saying you had been written [a] citation(s), but never been taken to jail (as long as that is truthful). Most employers are trying to determine if you have taken the "big ride" when they ask that, not if you just got caught speeding or had an expired tag.

Thanks for the help! I've always been noting that I have had speeding ticket before to clarify in the box. Good to know they likely aren't grouping me with burglers and junk.

I get your point. We all have been there too. You’re going to find dicks in any profession. Where its 20 or 5mph over its just bad luck. When you’re a cop you don’t wake up in the morning and say "I'm going to catch to John Smith for tinted windows." It’s like throwing a fishing hook in a pond. You get what you get. I've had plenty of officers let me slide just for being nice and others didn’t. Doesn’t matter just bad luck... No offense taken
