Painting the back part of our head lights

yup, just placed my order. I am getting my valve covers polished and painting my coil packs and my ls6 manifold SOM. do u think it will be safe if i use the factory GM spray paint with a hi temp primer and hi temp clear? I read the post on how to paint your fast manifold. My Q' is do i still need to sand my ls6 mani? since its black...?
