it's a good point. there is a mystique that a muscle car must have a v8 because back in the 60's the weak engine was still a v8 which could still be made rather powerful and is hailed as one of those great engines. few people run around talking about their powerful v6's...well...zoomer and the other guys over at zzp do but that's besides the point.

Pewter- 2000 Z28 Camaro
My first Camaro (97) was a V6 car. It ran decently for what it was. Gave some of the 215hp Mustang GT's a pretty good run for their money. I had to get a Z28 when the LS1 became available, however, and have never regretted the decision. I'm hoping that the 09 Camaro will have the LS7, verbally "detuned" by GM to keep the Vette buyers happy. Did anyone else note that the stats in Edmonds.com for the 99 Vette and the 99 Camaro had the Vette at 3250 lbs with a 345hp engine doing 0-60 in 5.5 sec. and the Camaro at 3575 lbs with a 305hp engine doing 0-60 in 5.1 sec.? Now, lets see, 325 lbs heavier, 40 less horses and .4 seconds quicker to 60. Makes sense. I've got firm plans for an 09 Z28 or SS.
Chevy will have to provide some prodigious power to the Cammy to compete with the Mustangs with huffers and the upcoming Callenger with a hemi. I'm sure they will.Last edited by RagTop; 08-03-2007 at 12:15 PM.

Vote for Pedro.

it's GM. they axed the Monte Carlo...again...after stating it would go RWD in 2009 along with the Impala. they brought back the GTO...then killed it. they finally got the F-body design correct in 98...let it run until 02 cause they can't do a proper marketing campaign...so they killed it. hell...the ONLY thing that has survived through thick and thin has been the Silverado...and even it looks like shit at this point in time.
optimism? i love my GM...but optimistic is not a word that i'd use to describe GM.

I think a whippled out camaro would be a great idea. It could easily rival the cobra models. I really don't see the corvette in the same league as the cobra

Well even if they don't make a supercharged version hopefully they'll make it much easier to slap on a twin screw blower than it is on our LS1's.

Green- 94 Camaro 3.4
First off, the new V-6 model is going to be the 3.6 DOHC motor... most likely the Direct Injection VVT one with 302 hp... (not bad for a 6 huh?)
Second, supercharged camaro? Not a chance, until the end of the production run... actually, its not even too likely we will see an LS7 in the 'maros till '10 or '11.... Its not how GM does things these days... I would imagine the only engine options being the 3.6 and the 6.0... maybe the 6.2... but the LS2 is NOT down and out yet... Putting the LS3 in the vette isn't GMs way off killing off the LS2, but rather their way of distingushing the camaro from the vette...

thats the best reason i heard soo far from any body about the realese of the LS3 being introduce soo quick, even thoe the new LS2 arrival was not to long ago.

The Camaro was never detuned vs the corvette. Just like the Z28's 305 was never any less than the SS's 325 with just a muffler and ram air. Never happened they were all the same LS1's with just a difference in exhaust in the Camaro vs Vette just like the Trailblazer SS is the same LS2 as the Vette just with the fan mounted to the waterpump.
Secondly a supercharged engine would be cheaper than a titanuim rodded handbuilt cnc headed LS7. And the Vette is not the only GM Ls engine car to have a supercharger. Currently that roadster Cadillac is supercharged and the new CTS-V is supercharged and will be over 500 hp. So it is extremely feasable to put an engine out of an exhisting car lineup of 3 supercharged v-8's already and plop in into the engine bay of the Camaro which GM is spending massive amount of time and energy into (more than any other car in their lineup)
Likewise even with identical horsepower the Camaro will never unsurp the Vette. Physics including weight and aerodynamic drag will keep the Vette on top even with identical HP numbers.
On the LS2 it is dead period. The LS3 is not only cheaper to build with the standard L92 line of heads but is more efficient and greener (ULEV vs LS2 LEV) and more powerful hands down. Why again would I keep a bigger pollutant engine in the lineup that would affect my overall CAFE emissions? The CAFE assures that GM will continue to use the greenest engines available with the new regulations and the LS3 is much Greener than the LS2. Watch for all LS2 power to be replaced by LS3 by the end of 08 which will be the start of the production of the new Camaro.
Next some of you forget the fact that the Camaro has always had the vette engines base 1 year after the vette debuted with it- L98,LT-1, LS-1, and the GTO even recieved the LS2 after the vette debut. If the Trailblazer SS, GTO, SSR all have the same vette LS2 why wouldn't GM's newest phoenix the Camaro have one? They have never had to distinguish the Camaro from the Vette with 2 different engines and never did as well.
Next GM is not worried about a premium model Camaro topping a base model Vette as the Premium model Camaro will likely cost more than a base model vette so expect the premium Camaro to have more HP than a base Vette. Remember the LT4 powered Camaros and the early Firehawks? They had more HP than the Base LT1 Vettes.
Now Forged internals? doubt it. For the Same reason that the Z06 doesnt have forged pistons. Cold start up emissions. Forged units dont heat up as quick and wont expand and seal as quick as non forged.
If they put out a 650 HP Vette and keep the Z06 in the lineup expect a 500 HP Camaro if they drop the Z06 i'd expect a 500+ Camaro.

Hence what everyone is saying...GM underrated the LS1 in the f-bods on paper. When LS1 f-bods are putting down 300+rwhp stock that doesn't equal 305 at the crank considering 12%-18% drive-train loss...sorry.
The only attitudes that seem poor in this thread is yours..

Guys lets stay on topic and stop bitching at each other. I think we all can get our points across without the bashing. Thanks!!

RED 35TH ANIVERSARY PKG- 2002 CAMARO SS 35th LE
The Vette actually had a different cam than the camaro. I believe it started around 2001-02.. when the new camaro's came with LS-6 intakes. the cam had a less aggressive profile 99' Int 202/212 exhust. compared to 02' Int 192/202 exhust. They put the cam from trucks like the 5.3L and 5.7L. To reduce emmissions and get better fuel economy. Also the Vettes are a true dual setup, weight less, and more aero dynamic. Check out LS-1/LS-6 How to build high performance. They have all specs for ls1's and the differences in the years.

The cam change was in Fbodies as well as vettes. All LS1's got the revised camshafts Vette or Fbody.

Right now the biggest debate is L76 or LS3 base. My vote lays with the LS3 of course. They can have a L76 base as long as there is a LS3 and a SC engine as well.
