i really don't think this is THAT big of a deal, i mean yes she lost her life, undoubtedly, that is a tradgedy. HOWEVER, think of all the crazy medical stuff that happens everyday, and we hear about this ONE thing in some ghetto ass hospital. one out of fifty million isn't bad. nothings perfect, every system is gonna have a weak link.

sure lots of crazy medical stuff goes on every day, but when you are talking about someone vomiting blood in the middle of an emergency room with 10 medical 'professionals' standing around doing nothing then it becomes a problem. One of the doctors in the interview even said that she could be saved had she been seen in time... but whatever its LA they probably had a carload of 35 illegals to treat first

From the article:
Maybe the hospital just took the advice that some of the members here have suggested and did not treat her for a reason.Edith Isabel Rodriguez, 43, died of a perforated bowel on May 9 at Martin Luther King Jr.-Harbor Hospital.
...
“I’m in the emergency room. My wife is dying and the nurses don’t want to help her out,” Rodriguez’s boyfriend, Jose Prado, is heard saying in Spanish through an interpreter on the tapes.
There is still no excuse for such an event to take place.

i agree it never should have happeend, but a lot of people (in the media etc) are freaking about it this like the system is failing. its a ghetto ass hospital----> guess were stupid ass doctors and nurses end up? ghetto ass hospitals. if this only happens once in a great while in our nations WORST hospitals i still think the system is doing pretty damn well. i wouldn't go playing the race card so easilly w/o knowing if the people working there were minorities as well. its an awfully easy card to play w/o knowing the facts

I understand the point you are trying to make but some of the nations best hospitals are in the ghetto. For example, Columbia presbyterian where I had my heart procedure, thats in NYC. Plus even if it was a "ghetto ass" hospital, its not even a matter of them treating her and fucking up. They didn't even do anything. The treatment she got it was the same as if she was jus laying out on the street.

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
MLK/Drew Hospital might be in the middle of the ghetto but it's staff is far from ghetto. If there was a failure it probably lies with the state as Cali is increasingly reluctant to pay 100% for anybody. MLK is one of the only hospitals in the area that has a major trauma team on staff 24/7 and they also take indigents, i.e., folks without health care, but nobody likes to work for free.
I know, you look under my avatar and see AZ. I didn't move here until 2003. Up to that point I was born and lived in the South Bay area of LA (Gardena specifically, you know, right next to Compton?) so I know a bit about the area and it's hospitals.
I'm sorry to hear that she died but statistically things like this happen occasionally.
Edit: WOW! So when did King/Drew become King/Harbor? Last I looked (years ago) Harbor General was a mess with wait times like 6-12 hours if you weren't in critical condition......Last edited by 67CamaroRSSS; 06-14-2007 at 12:41 PM.

hospitals in areas with a lot of niggers/spics living there have to contend with a lot - most people are going to come in with no insurance and can't be turned away. somebody has to pay for that. it ends up being the people who are insured, but if there aren't enough of them, then the hospital goes in one of 2 directions: out of business, or lower their quality to save money. this case looks like maybe the latter. sad sad situation, but as white people move into the minority over the next 10 years, this is one of the truths you're going to have to know, and don't expect the media to share this info with you. what scares me is waht happens when these people with no insurance start traveling to get to the "real" hospitals bceause they want better care. then we are all fucked hard.

I dont wish death on people but boy oh boy do I have low tolerance for people that want to benefit from the america dream but not speak the native language in english. I'm so sick of going through phone prompts that have english as the 2nd language. Spanish is practically the primary. Oh well. I can't do anything legally to change it. I have friends that speak spanish and english and are very good people. But in staying with the thread, once again it scares me that anyone could get such poor treatment in an american hospital. granted nobody knows the specifics and it probably came down to medical insurance/payment. Lots of hospitals are probably sick of gettin beat out of payment. who knows. its sad. I made my point here.
