Is it theoretically possible to LAP someone in a straight line race?

If the LS1 is limited to ONLY 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear, with no 1st, or 5th (6th is useless), the Jetta might be competition.

I'd still bet on the LS1.

Still doubt it. By the time the LS1 gets to the top of 4th gear, the Jetta would be so far behind it would be ridiculous. Starting in 2nd gear isn't a problem, plenty of torque available right off idle

one of my neighbors has a Jetta 1.8 GLS and his friend has a VW GTI 1.8 and they try to run me all the time....i finally gave the a half throttle taste of the LS1 and walked both of them lol
