Exactly. All wheel driven truck or SUV! The ty has a slight HP advantage, but the Sys are faster due to weight.
My dad has a GN and it didnt seem very reliable to me, but in any case, I am biased. I got to see and ride in the GN everyday, plus there are more of them!
Syclones were built in just 91 right?
Typhoons were I think 91-93..?
But someone did say the GNs were more reliable. How so?99 T/A M6

Black on Black- 2001 Camaro SS
Why would anyone want to trade a 91-93 s-10 for a F-body, 4.3L for 5.7L? Makes no sense!

They are far from slow. And considering when they were built (1991-1993), they were extremely fast.
The Syclone (S-15/Sonoma) ran mid 13's bone dry stock.

The Typhoon (Jimmy/Blazer) ran low 14's (slower due to weight difference).

In shitty weather, my stock Ty ran 14.2s. Sure, the 98-02 F-Bodies are faster in the 1/4. But 60' & red-light-to-red-light races were a breeze with a Sy/Ty. Modded, they are damn quick. 11's are very common... Out of a non-aerodynamic-brick of a 6-cylinder-powered truck.
As far as dependability, not so much. The 4.3 won't take to mods like a 3.8 (GN) will. Replacement parts are a bitch to find. The body cladding is high as hell if you can locate it. But, they are somewhat collectible and a blast to drive.
IMHO, if you want a cool vehicle that will surprise the shit out of most anyone you run across on the street, get one and mod it. Like several of the posts in this thread, you will leave them saying, "What the fuck was that thing?!?!" Just know it will probably be somewhat costly to maintain.

Does anyone remember the old Chevy 454 trucks that were around in the early to mid 90's. How were those performance wise?

Fewer of them. I saw 4 98-02 Camaro's today. I have seen 1 Syclone in the last 6 months. And if you run across one at a red light, be ready. If he knows how to drive, he will jump you by a Wal-Mart length out of the hole. And playing catch-up on the street is a tough game to play.

Take to mods as in, they dont net enough power or the computer goes on the fritz? Or does it enhance a weak link elsewhere?
I think the vehicles would be perfect for sleepers. I mean, shit, some people on here didnt even know what they were! How the hell could that be, its a GM site!!!!!
Lots have changed since LS1.COM went down.
And why the hell does it say I registered in 05...and my posts are low as hell too! We used to have a real funny picture/owned/animated gif thread in the archives. Dammit I miss that shit.

In the last 6 months, I have seen no less than 15 SS's. But only 1 Syclone & 1 Typhoon. And that's between Louisiana & New Jersey. So I am not just scoping out one particular area. But there were tens of thousands of SS's built as opposed to 3000+- Syclones and Typhoons. So it's expected you would see fewer of them.

The bottom end of the 4.3 seems to be a weak link. When I still had mine, I researched a little bit and found out enough to know 4.3s don't hold up to the abuse that their Buick forefathers (GN) would. I don't know specifics. But if you want a ton of info, check out www.sportmachines.com. It's a very informative SyTy site. SyTy.org is another good one.
And yes, SyTys are amazing sleepers. Take off the lettering and even some gearheads will think it's a S-10 with a body kit. Then the
face they give is more priceless.

In the line of looks, they were cool. But to have a 454 in them, they were slow. I don't recall exact numbers. But I am thinking 16s. I may be totally off. But I know they couldn't hang with the 1st gen Lightnings. It was supposed to be Chevy's fast truck, but failed big time.
When I had my Typhoon, a few guys who had 454s thought because they had a 454 they could surely beat the hell out of a little ole 6-cylinder SUV. You could see the disappointment fill their eyes from the launch alone.

Burple- 1966 427 Cobra Replica
You'd be a baboon's fuzzy behind if you traded an LS1 F-Body for one of those.
