I average 36mpg in mixed city highway driving with my 2000 Bonneville with 80,000 miles on it... Somehow the extra 4 mpg doesn't seem a reasonable tradeoff to me, but that is just personal opinion. Congrats on the new car. My wife sells Toyotas and they cannot keep the Yaris in stock, or the Prius.

Yaris is owned by Toyota. That's not an American company, people. No matter where its made, the profits are going to Japan. Wake up and buy American. The job you save could some day be your own. I thought this was a board for talking about and supporting American car manufacturers, specifically General Motors. I guess not.

That Yaris is ugly poop, and someone seems to be a bit cranky. Kevin have a
before you blow a vein. I do agree somewhat.

Its not like I went out a bought a $60,000+ Toyota LandCruser.
For that kind of money I would of bought a TrailBlazer SS.
But we are talking about a car under $15,000. I bought the cheapest and the most reliable car out there. Sure, I could of bought the Caliber, Cobolt or Ion, but for the price i payed I would be lucky if it comes with A/C or even power anything.

You could have gotten an Aveo. The current model is kinda ugly but the new one coming soon looks pretty sweet.
The Yaris is smaller than the Cobalt/Caliber/Ion, isn't it?

dude dont have to get a tiny car to get great gas mileage. my brothers mercedes diesel station wagon gets 55 highway and bout 43 city. it also weights more than both ur ta and the yaris. 5 people 2 bigass dogs, luggage.
in my family we love them. we have 3 right now. how can u beat tahoe room and better gas mileage than a civic or toyota, plus u get luxury.
food for thought...

If you find value and increased utility from buying American, more power to you. I have only ever bought American cars. But I never bought a car because it was made by an American company. They were the best choice for me and they just happen to be American.
I guess I just don't see it the same way as you do. I feel no need to support any business like I would a football team. They exist to make a profit by providing a valuable product or service. They have to work to get my business. If they fail at that, then it is there own fault.
I personally see no need to place value on where something was made, but can appreciate those that do. We just need to realize that the lines that separate domestic and foreign companies are disappearing. Toyota for example employees Americans, pays U.S. taxes, and invests some of its profits in American facilities. The rest of Toyota's profits increase stockholder value, and being a stockholder is not limited to just Japanese people. GM, in an effort to compete in the global economy does the same. They sell us cars that are made in foreign countries. The Aveo is made by Daewoo in Korea, and my GTO in Australia.

I don't think they are flying gooks over to new jersey to assemble them. I'm pretty sure americans are doing it, the more we buy the more cars AMERICANS have to build.. Lose the attitude dude, he bought a damn car, it's nothing for you to give a damn about. You take care of your business and we'll take care of ours. When america can engineer a car with the quality of an import for the price of an import more people will buy american engineered cars. Regardless, it's still supporting the jobs of the americans who assembled it.

im seriously considering buying one of these as a daily driver. Im leaning towards the 4 dr. hatchback but not sure. They arent the best looking cars in the world but Toyota definitley has my respect considering my 90 4x4 Toyota has well over 220,xxx miles and runs flawlessly. To the guy who said why not buy an Aveo, do some research on driver reviews and youll see why. One guy had it in the shop 17 times in one year and 80% couldnt wait to take a loss and sell theirs. My 4wd truck has me sold on Toyota and they hold their value more than most other cars on the market so for that kind of car its a smart move.
