Floyd...

Still a classic..Time

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then the one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in the relative way, but you're older
And shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desparation is the English way
The time is gone the song is over, thought I'd something more to say

Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
When I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away, across the field, tolling on the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
And hear the softly spoken magic spell

Dont forget BREATHE

Breathe, breathe in the air.
Don't be afraid to care.
Leave but don't leave me.
Look around and choose your own ground.

Long you live and high you fly
And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
And all you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be.

Run, rabbit run.
Dig that hole, forget the sun,
And when at last the work is done
Don't sit down it's time to dig another one.

For long you live and high you fly
But only if you ride the tide
And balanced on the biggest wave
You race towards an early grave.

Gawddamn that floyd brings tears!!! So fuckin real, and I turn 30 in Aug., so I am definately (defiantly) feeling the speeding of the years. Hell, it's already April 06!!!!!!

You'll left out two of the greatest, Dr. Hook and the medicine show, and Eric Clapton

man those lyrics to time,

summary:

dont wait for the doors to open, open them yourself, dont get stuck doing something you dont want to do in between, you gotta take innitiave and get going

because time stops for no one, and it is a very funnything because it is slow at times and when you arent thinking about it it goes very fast

pretty deep shit, cant really even explain it but right now reading the lyrics is the first time i've really thoguht about it.

good song

Wow, excellent list of bands! I have only two to add

Humble Pie
Deep Purple

All the others have been listed.
A well done to all!

**snaggeltooth** · 04-15-2006, 08:02 AM

Damn, Humble Pie.... and I have their greatest hits cd...

**MysticZ28** · 04-18-2006, 04:43 PM

You asked for '70s and got mostly '60s ... ... not that the listed bands weren't great, collectively most of music from the '60s was better than the '70s IMO anyway.

But for some strictly '70s bands ...

Styx
Journey
Uriah Heep
Supertramp

I notice you didnt say Alice Cooper. Although they did put out a couple albums in the late 60s . The first real one was Love it to Death in 71...

**norm43a** · 04-19-2006, 12:53 PM

Deep Purple
UFO
Styx (late 70s)
Led Zeppelin
Jimi Hendrix - Band of Gypsies
Robin Trower (Bridge of Sighs)
The Who
Foghat
Bad Company
Foreigner
Kansas
Hawkwind (especially 'Seven Seconds of Forever' about the last seven seconds of your life in a nuclear attack. Don't listen to this one on acid.)

Jethro Tull
David Bowie
Elton John
KISS
REO Speedwagon
Pink Floyd
Bob Seger
Heart (late 70s)
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
Boston
Alice Cooper

Just to name a few. All had good music to kick back and mellow. There are alot more, just not enough time to list them all.
