I do know where the BCM is. I did the soldering trick a long time ago. I have pulled it out before. Is not easy to do ...

that happened to me once, when i still had my silverado. it was a saturday afternoon, we were driving my truck, which we hardly ever did. anyway, we got back to the house to grab something and i think my wife had to use the bathroom, or something. so i we get out, i pull the key just slightly out of the igination and lock the doors (powr locks, but no remote keyless, 2005 V6 base model). we go to get in and i ask her for her set of keys, to which she informs me are in her purse, inside the truck. luckily my wife still worked at the chevy dealer so she calls the assistant manger, who she is friends with his wife, and he just so happens to be at the dealership for something and he cut us a key and brought it to us.

oh, and a quick question about the dome light in these Camaros.....when i take my key out, the map lights flicker, and go bright then dim.

Any interior lighting issue that appears that was'nt there before is going to come from the BCM, or wiring.

Seeing as how 4th-gen wiring leaves plenty to be desired I'd have to say take your pick but lean more towards an eventual bigger BCM problem.

As before,, it's very common to have problems steming from the BCM that can cause odd issues system wide.

Or it could be your contacts are getting dirty in the ignition switch.lol

The fix for the intermittent power issue is resoldering these points.

the map lights dimming on and off is the only issue i have.

i dont know if its related or not, but the person who had this car before me added a push button start where the cirarette lighter was, but he cut the yellow ignition wire, so the key switch will not start the car. you still have to turn the key to the run postion, then push the starter button. also, because of this it has thrown a clutch safety switch code twice. had the dealer reet it both times, but the car still started and drove just fine with the CEL on.

Yes it sure is.. They had to perform a vats bypass for the push button start.

The anti-theft system gets it's arming orders dirrectly from the BCM..

I would deduce that the previous owner attempted the first VATS bypass by simply strait jumping the harness instead of using a resistor of the proper value.

    Effectively damaging the BCM.

This value is determined by the resistor in the ignition key.

Damage to the BCM can and will have broader effects likely over time.

Damaged and or damaged partualy funtioning curcuitry has a rate of "decay" sometimes it's fast (less than a second),

sometimes longer (a year or more) depending on fequency of use, and other possible factors.

As the curcuitry of the BCM board dies or malfunctions, other still powered areas of the board are effected,

whether it be from a momentary short, power surge, etc.

Moral of the story is don't hack up your harness. Do it right the first time and it will likely last with far less broad problems.

wait, i still have the ignition key in the ignition and turned to the run position. just under the dash, i noticed which i was installing a clutch master cylinder that the yellow ignition wife that you are supposed to just splice into to install the push button start has been cut and wired up to the push button. i would have fixed it, but it was late at night and we were pretty frustratred trying to feed the new master into place.

i also messed up my cruise control switch on the clutch pedal, either broke it installing the new master, or bumped it out of place. i dont ever drive it on long trips, but sometime i'll get in there and fix it and re-connect the yellow igniton wire.
