Well I would def get a vette over a MS6. I like the ms6 in theory but I was not impressed when I drove the car. Not impressed by the power, not impressed by the FWD bias AWD system and not impressed with the oil consumption problems that has bee na known issue with that engine. My subaru came factory rate with 250hp, the ms6 has 276 and the subaru felt faster and more fun.
As for dealers I have had my share of problems but mainly when I deal with a dealer across state lines and drive down to IL. But then again almost everything in IL is shady, its just they way they do business down there. The last time I went to IL to look at a car was when I was trading in my T/A and trying to get a GTO. Spoke with the dealer who told me the car was in mint condition with 37k on it. I drive down there about 2 hours each way and when I get there the car has serious issues. The passenger interior door panel had huge scratches, the passenger seat was also torn and the car would grind everytime you shifted into 3rd. Dealer told me that happened to all the 6 speed transmissions and its normal, I told him I have a 6 speed T/A right over there with 65kmiles on that shifts like butter. He then tried to convince me that new is the way to go, he kept trying to get me to drive a 2008 charger r/t(new at the time) which he claimed would smoke my T/A.

I wouldnt buy a 500+ hp car that is only that old with 50k miles but that is just me.
To me that is HIGH MILEAGE.
A couple of them are decent mileage but if I am spending 40k it better be low mileage. For 5-10k more you can get one with under 10k mile AND the upgraded transmission. These are all early years other than the 2008 and I wouldnt pay that much for them.

Chances are if it has that many miles already its been used and and abused all 50K which might as well be 100k already on the car. Most people treat Vettes as if they're made of gold and God's jizz and generally let them sit and when they do come out are driven in a Miss Daisy manner.
Start dogging the hell out of that 97 daily and see how much longer it holds up as the early years have weaker oil pumps and in general bottom ends.
Hell I've put cams in 80K cars with copper exposed in the cam bearings in 02 cars...

I put 20,000 miles on my 97 last summer... and I have 4 vehicles.... it did just fine. I do not see how you can just state because a vette has 50k miles and is only a few years old it must be used and abused. A 08 is 4 years old going on 5. Thats just about 10,000 miles a year. If someone puts a lot of miles on there car in a short period of time my mind thinks that they must be doing a lot of cruising. People who beat there 2nd cars are usually the guys who drive them on the weekends or very rarely but get on it whenever they get the chance because they rarely drive them.
Personally I would be more worried about a 5 year old car that only has 10k miles on it. I have seen a lot of cars that are never driven shit out because of lack of use when someone who wants to use them does buy it. If those 10k miles were nicely spread out over those 5 years not a problem but if they were all put on in the first year and then left to sit for 4 years that worries me.Last edited by Zinergy; 02-14-2012 at 10:45 AM.

I still need a better DD than the Sable is the point. Vette is not a winter car in PA.
I bought a 2007 MS6 new in 2007 & had it for ver 3 years & 48k miles. Never had a problem beyond a wheel bearing dying, but that was @ lease end so I didn't fix it. Mine did not drink oil. Loved that car.

I may go check out a local 7k mile C6Z @ a dealer tomorrow. I'm sure it'll be beat or they will not like my offer. They've had it since November.

I still wouldnt do it and an early Z wouldnt be on my radar. If its the first half of the year of the 2007s good fucking luck with it. Lots of them are having issues with the rockers going to shit and guess what? Engine goes kaboom.
Check the vin, if its an 07 and the first half of the year STAY away.
I wouldnt buy a performance car like that with that many miles. It is high miles....maybe not compared to Honda Civic DD but for a summer car it is. Its why MOST people who can afford a car dont want one with 50k miles on it, at least most poeple I know who buy cars like this dont.

I'll be buying a 2006 or 2007 Z06 if I get one.
Just like every other car made, some have issues & most don't.

I've only bought (2) vehicles from dealerships and both vehicles were brand new; the Camaro and the Impala. Got the Impala at the dealership's cost plus an additional 3,000 off from doing their smart buy program. Can't really complain there.
I think it's poor business ethics to lie to someone to get them to the dealership though.

Thing is if you are looking at vehicles that require travel try using the car forums and finding members in areas that your looking that will check a vehicle out. Most don't want anything being a car person most opt for the chance to molest a vehicle. If someone does check it out and you do buy it and go there to get it take them out for a dinner or beer or get them a gift card they could use.
Had a situation happened to me when my trans am was totaled was looking at suv's because met a chick with kids and got tired of sports cars in winter. Ended up finding an auto trader magazine and an 05 ml 350 medallion edition price listed in 06 went online saw same SUV different price little higher. Went to the dealer looked at the truck ready to buy it and asked a price 4k higher than the book and online so about 6k more than the book. Looked at him and started walking away manager seen and came out and asked why told him. Long story short manager rectified the situation and ended up getting the truck for 2500 less than the auto trader and they footed the cost of 50% of the extended warranty. Was happy got a 1yr old mercedes for just over half the cost of new one and to find out the dealers owners wife bought the vehicle new so new was maintained right.
So know what you mean by getting fucked but if you find a car that you like back up your finding and when push comes to shove provide findings that can help you a lot in negotiations. This one ended up positive because confronted the dealership of the shady dealings and came out in my favor.Last edited by camaross0002; 02-14-2012 at 09:37 PM.

Dealers strike again! Was talking to the dealer on the above mentioned C6Z. I asked about blemishes etc. He responded this morning it is better to call him to discuss & that's in great or whatever shape he said. So a few min after I got that email I respond telling him I will be coming in this afternoon. 5 minutes later he emails me saying it was "literally just sold on the internet" LOL GFY

Still doesn't make sense to me, that civic could have been beat on harder than the corvette. It all comes down to the driver and how the vehicles are maintained. So the dude likes to cruise in the summer time a lot, that doesnt mean the car is worn down, abused or in any worse shape than a same year corvette with 20k miles on it. You can spend 50k on a z06 with 10k miles or 40k on one with 50k miles there is no telling which one was better maintained and which one will last longer without having any major parts fail.
