Nope! Toyota states its good up to 100k miles. Like i said we do see cars with dirty fluid at 40k and give the cust the option. Personally if it were my car it would be 30k no matter what toyota says!! On my 98 camry every oil change i drain and refill the trans fluid also and knock on wood at 190k its still good!

Well toyota care is just oil change and tire rotation, nothing else.... There is really nothing to do on these cars which sucks for us, they dont break down, less and less stuff to do as per maint. Brakes tires and warranty is all we do...

Thanks, Silver! Good info and matches what I have been reading. I have to check their manual but I think it may take T-IV fluid -- not sure what "World Standard" is.

No prob. im 99% sure its WS fluid but i could be wrong since all the vehicles in that year range changed. World Standard is toyota's new fluid and even from what ive heard if any other fluid is used when draining and refilling or flushing the vehicle will set DTC codes. Check the dipstick it will either say Type T-4 or WS

I have offered for years to service their vehicles, however, he has almost religiously taken their cars to the dealership for routine maintenance, other than oil changes. The dealership is indicating that their RAV4 is due for a "steering shaft service" or "power steering service" (I'm not sure which is correct) to the tune of $379.00, in addition to a transmission fluid flush for $189.00. Of course, this f'in pisses me off as I see "rip off" written all over it. I searched a bit on-line and could find no such thing as a "power steering service" on a RAV4 other than changing the fluid. The transmission flush is clearly way over-priced in my book and is something that I can easily perform.

I think I finally have my father convinced that he has been flushing money down the shitter and with my mother's coaxing their vehicles will now be coming to my garage. He described the last scheduled service, which was at 60,000 miles, in which they supposedly dropped the rear differential from the vehicle to clean or replace the vent tube -- all at a cost of a few hundred dollars. I am calling the service department tomorrow to see what sort of ass-brained description they are going to give in explaining their "power steering service". However, before I go off half-cocked, I just want to ask if anyone has ever heard of such a thing on a Toyota as I have never owned one or previously worked on one to any extent.
I will chime in here being I work for a Toyota dealer as a ASM. The steering shaft service could be something that was recommended as a repair and being confused by your dad. You sure he didn't mean replacing the secondary steering shaft? That price sounds about right to replace one, which generally should be replaced if you hear some popping when turning the steering wheel. If that is the case, ask him if he has an extended warranty with Toyota Extra Care which will cover that depending on what plan he has.

As for them charging that to lubricate the joints and stuff, they can kick rocks for that price.

The power steering flush is a maintenance service which should be no more than $100 unless it has Electric power steering which I do not think the 07's have.
The transmission fluid flush is about on par for every dealership I worked for when it comes to that service. You flush out the entire transmission( many do not have filters anymore, just screens) that way and I believe it has WS.

Silver Bullet pretty much is spot on.

As for the Frame Spray recalls for the Tacoma-96-2004(90D) have expired and the early 2000's Tundra(B0D/A0F) are still going as we are doing plenty of those.

Frame spray? They were putting new frames under the Tundras. The Toyota dealer around the corner has 2 guys and that's all they do

They are replacing them if there were holes in the frames but if they are just rusted they are grinded down and then sprayed..

I am changing the oil sometime this week on it and will eye ball the transmission. I pulled the stick and it is marked with "WS" - so I assume that is the World Standard fluid you guys mentioned. I will also be driving it around to see for myself if the steering shaft makes any noise. Thanks again for the replies!

Did the oil change tonight and took a look at the transmission. Appears to be a pretty straightforward process changing the trans fluid and filter, just like on any other car. I drove it for a few miles to warm it up and did not notice anything unusual in the steering on the road. In my driveway, at very slow speeds, I may have felt something once, but it is certainly not clunking or making a bunch of noise. After the oil change, I checked everything else over on the car. If I read the manual right, the power steering is an electric assist system rather than hydraulic. I had to go look when I couldn't find a power steering pump or reservoir under the hood. It's a dirty car from our recent semi-winter roads...

The lift does make life easy. I'll have to get fluid from the dealership for it. Looks like 3.5 qts if I remember correctly from the manual specs.
