.22 is a very lethal round,dude at the the party was just trying to be billy badass he'd probably piss his pants at the business end of a .22 even at 300 yards.

Seeing insurgents hop back up and run off after being hit with a 5.56 is enough to make you realize that a bigger round is needed. Not doubting that a .22 wouldnt kill a person as well as the added bonus of not having traceable ballistics at close range, but if you really need to put him down like old yeller, i would def suggest a beefier round.

People have gotten up after being hit by bigger rounds as well. Just depends where they get hit and also how long they make it before they bleed out. My dad was shot in the leg with a .45 slug and made it a small distance to phone for help. I have seen deer dropped in one shot with a 5.56.

military ball ammo incapcitation is largely attributed to the upset, or "yaw" condition that happens as it passes through the body (basically the center of mass is positioned nearer the base of the bullet, and so the disruption caused by impacting tissue/etc cause it to yaw into a kinetically stable attitude)... there are a number of variables at play here, (geometry, anatomy along path, bullet construction, bullet mass, bullet impact velocity, etc), any of which can result in a dichotomy of effects... w/ 5.56, the bullet must pass through about 12cm of tissue before it begins to yaw, ...which produces a large permananent and temporary cavity - this is what gives it maximum incapciation effect,... in malnourished individuals, i.e. "skinnies", ...this effect may never fully develop if it exits before upsetting...
here's one good read by fackler;

any other special conditions you need for this miracle shot?
I was thinking outdoors in a rain storm and we each get a leg shot.
I've killed a lot of shit with my 22. Back when I was in high school I carried it around with me everywhere I went. I've made some pretty neat shots over the years. Shot rabbits on the run with it and even shot a grouse out of the air with it. Made some long distance shots with it too. My buddy shot a crow out of a tree once from the truck window. There had to be like a 3 second delay from the time he pulled the trigger until the crow fell.....not sure on the yardage but it was way the hell out there. That all said my 22 is the very last gun I'd grab to kill anything bigger than a squirrel or rabbit out past 50 yards.

It's no where near a mircale shot as long as there is no wind to blow that tiny slug off course. I have shot .22lr at a 300 yard range that is dug into the ground to limit wind and I was on the paper with fist size groups. I never use my .22 for hunting anything other than small game though. Hunting in WI you usually do not get to shoot at anything over 100 yards away. 30-30 is a great gun for hunting here but I keep wanting to buy a lever action that shoots .44 magnum as my next brush gun.

rifles aren't allowed here at all for big game.....thankfully so. We have some real morons walking the woods during deer season. If they allowed rifles I would probably stop gun hunting deer altogether. Even with the shotgun I fear for my life walking in and out of the woods unless it's completely dark or completely light. I will not walk in or out in low light conditions.
The last couple of years I've really got into my black powder gun. Took me a few years to get used to it but it's a really fun gun to shoot. It's kinda the same here as far as distance shots.....100 yards is pushing it really in the woods I hunt. Inside 100 yards that black powder gun does fine though.....still pretty accurate at that range and still has plenty of punch.
