Sorry took so long for the pics, been busy, crappy cell pic. Update on the rims, before putting them on the car the texture on the rims felt.....flimsy. But after a few heat cycles from driving them around a few days the flimsy feel is gone and they feel like they've baked on decently well.

^the matte look definitely just makes the wheels look dirty. Not really a fan of the matte.

I can understand that. I really like the look, car looks much more aggressive imo.

I can see where you are coming from with the aggressive look. Are you considering a glossy finish at all?

the black rims I had on my z28 had a glossy finish, it wasn't bad but I always wanted to try out the matte look. I'm considering it, i got a couple months to think it over. When I go to get them powdercoated I'll more then likely have them atleast 1 layer of clear coat. I'd like a semi gloss look, something in between.

good idea, i'll use the plasti-dip on the corners and see how it turns out.

update: it rained today, bunch of dirt got on the wheels, cleaned it off and none of the dip came off, so that's good. There was some overspray on the tires though apparently, that started to peel off, so I pulled it off.

you know, plasti dip is a great porous surface to paint on, (1000x better than chrome) if you wanted to give them a glossy sheen you could probably lay a clear coat over them from a shaker can, that would be pretty interesting to see how that turns out.. might even make them more durable

oh yeah i had mine on my rear lights and beger panel for a month and some days now. I wash my car once a week, it rains and it's still holding strong is a very good product.

yeh this stuff's magic in a can, for $5 each I really couldn't ask for more out of it. It's not a secret either, stuff sells like crazy, every store I went in to buy it was sold out of the spray, I had to drive out of town to get it.

I did a bit of reading on that. Turns out clear coat on plasti dip turns the color of the base yellowish, weird. Yeh i've heard it's a good base, but i'd be scared with what would happen if the dip started peeling one day, then I'd have to redo the whole rim, so i'll prob just sand the chrome off when I get it powdercoated.

I plasti-dipped mine in june and DD since, none of it has come off. I just took steel wool and soap to clean wheels and sprayed. I didn't even tape them off, it just peeled off the tire after driving.

just make sure the area is clean, if you plan on removing it later, I wouldnt sand the surface,

the fewer edges to the area the better; PD makes a 'glove' over whatever you spray it on, and the peeling always starts where the coating ends, so for example, spraying all the way around the spokes of the wheel is better than just spraying the side that shows and leaving the backside bare.
