Light Pewter Metallic- 2001 Camaro SS
it is total possible that it came with all those options. your best bet is to call SLP with the vin to confirm whether it is a real SS or not.
all 02s have the plaque that says 35th anniversary on the dash. the true anniversary editions were considered LE cars and were red with the stripes

If it is a real SS, all you have to look for is the "WU8" code on the driver door option sticker.
If it is a real SS SLP car,,,,it will also have a "Y2Y" code on that same driver door option sticker.
If you find "Y2Y" listed on the driver door sticker,,,, then it should have the SLP option sticker over on the passnger door. I've never seen one without it,,,,unless it simply wasn't an SLP optioned car, or for some strange reason it was removed, possibly the door replaced??
Both of my SS's have the "Y2Y" code on the driver door, and both have the SLP sticker on the passenger door listing the add on's that SLP installed.
One is a 2000, the other a 2002.

navy blue- 2002 camaro ss
Yes you are correct firebirdjones. It is a real ss because it does have the wu8 code but the passenger door jam does not have the 2nd content slp sticker. Like said above you can try and call slp with the vin to verify.

Sunset Orange Metallic- 2002 Camaro SS
It probably is a real ss, but with the base alterations (if the slp sticker is missing). The wheels and catback may have been added later. Most of the 98-02 ss cars did go thru SLP for finishing whether they were base or additional content cars; The extra content would've been coded y2y (as above), with the second sticker and the second window sticker.
Anyone buying a 4th gen "SS" needs to check the paperwork, including the original invoice before buying an example.Last edited by lbls1; 02-14-2011 at 05:33 PM.

^ I wouldn't bet on that. A lot of people picked up/swapped parts on these cars during the years. It won't make a difference in resale value (too bad if someone spent a lot of money on parts) unless the car was really a z28 (no wu8 code) and was made up to look like an ss.
Potential liability on the seller if they're advertising it as an authentic ss, as well as disappointment to a potential buyer. That is why I do not condone any type of cloning. Be who...and what you are!

Yes some of that stuff is expensive to buy now, and some of the original stuff isn't produced anymore either.
There is aftermarket out there, but you can spot that stuff easily up close.
You would need the passenger SLP door sticker or the SLP paperwork to verify exactly how the car came equipped with extra SLP options if it did indeed have them. We could assume floor mats but it's not necessarily a given. It's a matter of what the buyer checked off. There are some oddballs out there with various combinations of SLP options.
My 00 SS has the chrome ZR1's, Dual/Dual, floor mats, and that's about it. I would have thought springing for the chrome wheels, the same buyer would have sprung for the SS front grille too and complete the lookBut it's not unusual.
My 02 SS however is a bit strange. For starters it's a vert. It was ordered with the floor mats,,,,and also the rear deck mat which is strangeSince a vert doesn't have a rear deck to place it, there is really no where to put it, and it doesn't fit behind the back seat while the top is up
It came with other things like the SS grille, CME, lid, portfolio, SS car cover, and something I can't remember at the moment. But it wasn't ordered with chrome wheels,,,,go figure
I restore classic cars and I've seen some very strange combinations and options, so it's no surprise.

I'd probably sell it.........
With the rest of the car
I've seen the floor mats still available, but it seems they are down to limited colors. Probably won't be long before you won't be able to get your hands on them anymore.
I don't even remember seeing the rear deck mats being available anymore, maybe I overlooked it though.
I'm ordering a spare SS grille this week while they are still around. I fear it won't be long and they won't be available anymore either.

Not sure about afterthoughts auto, never heard of them.
If they carry OEM parts I'd consider it good. I'm not much for china knock off stuff, and you see alot of that around if the part isn't manufactured OEM anymore. But that's just me, I've gotten picky in my old age, restoring these classic cars has really made me appreciate NOS parts.
I looked at SLP, and only see the ebony and dark grey SS front floor mats that are still made. Other colors are gone now. And I didn't see the rear deck mat at all.

Okay I googled afterthoughts,,,,
It appears those mats are listed as being SLP's, so I'd feel comfortable with it. They also still list the deck mats.
Front floor mats are listed at about the same price as SLP has them for so it's a toss up. Since Afterthoughts has the deck mats too, I'd just order them all from the same place.

Thanks for the heads up on that place, I just checked to see if they carried the SLP SS front grille. Turns out they are on sale. So I'm ordering mine today.
