See what I mean? Some people take their football serious

Not everyone likes the home team all the time though.

Then we would be talking about how stupid some people are to kill over a sporting event. The point is the school over reacted to a football jersey. The kid is not guiltless either but a football jersey doesn't warrant a suspension. If I was in school still I'd rock that shirt everyday so I could skip class.

Exactly. Perhaps detention would have been a better choice for going against the 'rule of the day' in this case.

yeah but if the home team is not your team at least acknowledge that and not be a jackass about it. I hate the buckeyes....live right in the middle of them but I'd never rock another teams jersey to a pep rally. He can wear that jersey all he wants but when there's a special day set aside for the home team it's very disrespectful to show up in another jersey. He got off easy IMO.....needs an ass beating or the lesson is lost here.

So what we can gather is Orion wants to see someone's ass get beat.

This wasn't a pep rally though. It was an ordinary day at school. From what I understood. Maybe I need to go back and check...

I still say that a suspension was a tad much. Kids get suspended for beating the crap out of other kids. Or, being destructive to school property, etc... Not for going against a temporary allowance of only wearing Seahawks colors vs the daily uniform rules.

Maybe a school that has a dress code shouldn't allow a certain amount of students that like football get a day of wearing something other than said uniform approved by the dress code

See, you can't please everyone all the time.

well, I'm sure the school thought they were doing something that the kids would appreciate....and the majority I'm sure did appreciate it. Only takes this one kid to ruin it for everyone. The school didn't say seahawks jersey or nothing. They gave options. Shirts, colors, or the school uniform. This kid asked and was told no so he took it upon himself to completely ignore that and wear it anyhow. A suspension is a light sentence IMO. What are you teaching this kid? The rules apply to everyone except him? If life doesn't go just the way you want it too and isn't fair then just do whatever you want anyhow? I hold his parents just as responsible as I do him if they were aware of all this and let him wear it anyhow. Zach's ass would be in a sling if he pulled this. Sometimes the rules don't make sense and sometimes they're not fair but that doesn't mean you ignore them and then cry when you're held accountable.

I think they had good intentions, but a suspension doesn't really punish a kid. It didn't me anyway. Yea I got yelled at by my mom and my dad used a more physical means but still once they rolled out to work I could watch TV, smoke dope whatever. If you want to punish a kid in school it has to be done at the school. I personally believe they should bring back paddling but even my wife calls me a dinosaur when it comes to discipline. They should of put him in a room by himself and made him do his schoolwork at a minimum, after they paddled his ass.

As a Cowboy fan that grow up outside of Philly in the 80's I wore my team jersey all the time during football season. Sometimes it led to some fist fights but no one told me I couldn't wear it. What a bunch limp pansy ppl in Seahawk country. If I was a Steelers owner I'd send some tickets and a flight to the game for the kid and parents.

Also uniforms for public school are total

Stupid decision on the school's part. I came from a private school that had a strict dress code. (actually found out they went to uniforms a coupe years after I graduated). We had days like this though, however it was always a "Team Day" or "NFL, NBA, NHL, NCAA, etc Day" because not everyone was a Carolina Panthers fan. Including the teachers. It was just a day where everyone wore their jersey of choice and we all talked shit to each other and had a good time. School administration took a good concept for that environment and ruined it because they're all Seahawks fans.

I have to side with the school on this one. The kid blatantly disrobed the rules. Rules are rules if you disobey them you get punished its that simple. It does not matter if you think it should only be seahawks or not. That is there rule, its regular dress code or seahawks nothing else the child was told that several times and still insisted on breaking the rules so he was punished. As a child you do not get to pick and choose what rules you get to follow. If any member on here told there child to do something and only that something and the child disobey they would punish the child this is no different. If as a parent, child or citizen of the community and you don't agree speak your mind at a school meeting. There are many rules or laws that we all don't agree with but guess what we all follow them, if we don't agree we take it up with or elected officials.

Damn! It's not that serious No one got hurt. I happen to have raised a pretty decent kid myself. I get all that.

But, we're talking about an adequate punishment that fits the 'crime'. In my world, detention for a few hours after school would have been just. Isn't that what all the other smart asses get? Or do they all get suspended now too?

Maybe we should as Derek and Iroc.

I disagree. Kids need to be taught responsibility and kudos to the school.

Rules are rules. No one is disputing that.

I still say detention would have been a more fitting punishment. Suspension only gives them a day off and possibly stays on their record.

Theres a difference between accidentally wearing a steelers jersey because you were not sure if you could or not. In which I agree might only warrant being told to chang or perhaps detention. To blatantly disobey a rule after being told exactly what could and could not be worn several times deserves further discipline. The kid was testing the authority of the school and your surprised he was suspended. Sorry but the kid got what he deserved, if he was my kid he would also be grounded while he was at home suspended.

I know when I graduated in 02 my high school still had paddling, well they called it swats. I never had any but know several kids that did and they all said it hurt like hell. To this day have no idea how in 02 they still got away with doing.

I disagree....kids that blow people away most likely come from 2 different types of families. Family's that don't give a shit about their kids and families that are abusive. Nothing wrong with some good ole discipline. Does a kid good.
I'm probably harder on my kids than most are these days but I also do my best not to take it too far. I don't spank on a regular basis but they both know I will and that's usually enough. One thing I do not tolerate is defiance. After they're out of the house they can be rebelious all they want but for the time being what I say goes and it's not open for debate. They get in more trouble asking "why" than anything else. When I tell them to do something "why" has nothing to do with it....just do it.
