ALL FOUR RIMS ARE FINALLY SANDED! and even grinnded the outer edge of the lip smoothe. Took the tires off today to do that. Still trying to decide to either paint or polish the lips. Now that the outer edge is back smoothe now im re considering a polished aluminum lip. Ill post up pics tomorrow of the stripping.

some progress. all four sanded, now working on the aluminum. up to 1200 grit on one grit
Official sizes are 9.5"x17" fronts and 10"x17" rears. finally found that out after i cleaned them REALLY good on the back sides.

I admire your perseverance. I have been trying just to clean "polished" rims and the progress is horrible. Unless I am willing to scratch the schm!t out of them with an industrial scotch bright they just don't come clean. A four month combination of brake dust, salt and snow does one nasty number on these rims. I thought of blasting and painting them, but I love the look of polished aluminum, even more than chrome. Does anyone have any suggestions other than sending them out for re-polish at moocho $$$?

Finally done with the forth rim for preping for paint. Now just working on preping for polishing. All four are up to 600 grit and look pretty good so far.
This pic was taken before i finished the last one today. Shows what i started with on the lips.
Cant wait to paint them now

Im just glad the hard parts done. its all down hill from here. now just working the rims up to 1200 and 2000 grit to shine up the lips. so far i got one up to 800. Sicne i went bare metal with a 120-180 i gotta go up and down in grit to smooth it out. for example ill go 240-320-400-320-400-600-400-600-800-1200-800-1200. sometimes one grit wont get everything out but you cant see it until you go up in grit and then you gotta go back one to do it. Its a tedious process but it will look GREAT once its up to 2000 grit. THis is a great project for those with OCD lol

LOL yeah that was just a test fit to see how they manage. ill have some 275/40s up front and 295/35 in the back.
As for painting i still wanna do it myself, but i keep getting the erg to get them powdercoated too. Its gonna be black regardless. just want the paint to last. I actully have a spray gun laying around, but no car paint to use it with.Last edited by JoshuaGrooms83; 02-08-2011 at 09:45 PM.
